Honey, I get lost

One thing I always used to be proud of, when I was much younger, was my navigation skills. What you have to allow for, is that this was in the days, long before Sat-Navs, and GPS and the like, and if you had to navigate somewhere, it tended to come down to very large map books, and watching out for signposts! Whereas nowadays, all you have to do is listen to your phone, or Sat-nav, and let it do the work. Well, there are occasional issues with those things, but generally…

The snag is, for those of us who dont (deliberately) have smart phones, and are travelling on foot, is that you tend to rely more on maps, and given I have to plan directions ahead, on my laptop, before leaving home, you cant double check these things en route!

So yesterday, I’d been given directions to get to the shuttle bus that runs to where the course was being held, and the first step (or in this case, steps) was easy enough to follow. But then, at the bottom of the stairs, no bus stop in sight, so which way to go? Seeing I was aiming for bus stop Z1, and I knew where Z2, and Z3 were, and that meant turning right, I went in that direction. Fine, but unfortunately, Z1 was about 400 yards away from them, on the opposite side of the steps!

So, despite arriving at the station in time for the 8.45 shuttle (train on time, whatever next?), I missed it. if I’d turned the right way, I would have got it. As it happened, I got the 9.15, still got there in time for the course, so…

But yes, I’m losing my touch, navigation wise, as the years go by. Ah well…

Video time. No, I wasnt really lost, I just about knew where I was going, and was able to right the wrong, just not in time. But yes, this video will do, all the same. Apologies for quality, but only one I can find on You Tube, unfortunately

The wicked things we do

Tomorrow, instead of heading to Bradford, to do a normal, full day at work, I’m heading to Leeds instead. No, I’m not throwing a sickie, or anything, its work related.

In an ideal world, my back would allow me to work for nearly another 6 years, and retire at what is now the normal retirement age for British women, at 66. In truth, I would say, that even doing a 4 day week, as at present, my chances of doing so, rank probably as fair, but no more. So yes, on a pre retirement course tomorrow, to learn what I can do to make my future as easy as possible.

The thing is, it means I need to be in an office, just outside the center of Leeds, for 9.30 tomorrow morning. Yes, thats right, I need to get there right in the middle of the rush hour, and thats why I’ve done a wicked thing.

Its fair to assume that the 8.15 train tomorrow, from Huddersfield, to Leeds will be busy, and its quite likely some people will need to stand. Yes, the chances of me being able to stand, even with my brace on, for about 25 minutes, in one place, not good, or less! So yes, depending on your view of matters, I’ve either been practical, or wicked, and reserved a seat on the train, no pot luck for me! I cant do the same coming home, unfortunately, because I dont know exactly what time the course will end, and whether I will get out in time for the 5.00 shuttle, especially given my mobility limitations (its meant to end at 5.00), or need to be on 5.30 one, and that will affect the time I get back to Leeds station, and what train I’m able to get, so yes, wish me luck on that trip, especially as my disability is an invisible one! Hopefully my old commuting skills will return, and I can find a seat!

But yes, I know, I’m partially disabled (suspect I count as disabled, but prefer not to see myself as that, just yet), so I shouldnt be bothered by covering myself this way, but I do! But yes, it will be nice in the morning, knowing I dont have to scramble to get a seat on a rush hour train.

The video, talking of things wicked…

The laptop, it is a changing!

OK, a piece of sentiment, as this will probably be one of the last written on this old laptop before its honorably retired from duty. This will be number 924 on here, seemingly, for this blog, though its written even more for the other blog too, so its coming up on 1900 altogether, wow! Only needs 3 more blog days (at 2 blogs a writing day), so whether I let it get to its milestone or not, no idea, but I suspect not, as its getting a bit weighty for an old lady like me.

I’m not quite sure how long I’ve been using this, but it must be getting close to a decade, and it was only second hand then, so in laptop terms, its even more ancient than me! In truth, like me, its got a few ‘physical issues’ nowadays, as the battery now has an unplugged life of less than 30 minutes, and as I’ve already mentioned, in terms of weight, compared to modern machines, its the weight of a dinosaur! Apart from that, its moody (just like me), and its relationship with Internet Explorer nowadays has almost reached divorce status lol! But yes, I suspect I’m going to find the leap from Windows 7, to Windows 10 a bit of a shock for this old dinosaur! But seriously, my new one will be about half the weight, or less of this one, an absolute blessing for me, especially when travelling!

Do you know the irony though, I paid more for this second hand (£200), than my new one (£165) will cost me, even not taking inflation into account over nearly 10 years? My first ever computer, at the turn of the century, about £900, back then!

I know what my biggest hell is going to be, in changing computers, even assuming Ella can simply transfer my favorite lists over? Passwords! Because everything is preset on here, I have no idea what password I am on for lots of sites nowadays! Yes, that could be fun…rolls eyes…

But yes, its going to be nice to be able to run things on IE again, that I cant run on here anymore, just because of the way websites have changed over the years. Mind, I will probably still use Chrome for some stuff, regardless, just out of habit! Yes, if only it was easy to change for a nice new body, lol. Mind, I’d make sure I had all the ‘right parts’ if I did that, believe me!

Oh, and while I’m mentioning the blessings of technology here… Having accepted I need a mobile phone for security/health reasons (mainly the latter, given my physical state), I have the nightmare of trying to do teleconferences on a tiny mobile phone, for lengthy periods of time, with arthritic hands, which get very sore gripping a tiny phone for 30 minutes, or more at a time. So yes, I’m getting one of those headset set ups, so I can listen, and talk, without needing to hold the phone. Mind, I do swear, if someone sees me out, seemingly talking to myself like an idiot, please shoot me! Maybe not, but you get my drift, lol!

So yes, honest, I am trying to drag myself into the modern world, though both are down to need due to age, and health, than any desire to be technologically cool!

I’m not going to say anything about the political sentiments behind tonights song, however tempting it might be, from both sides of the pond. But yes, they’re talking about events of over 50 years ago, within my lifetime, but a whole different world for so many, I guess?

I’d wear it well?

There are a couple of things responsible for tonight’s blog, one is a Facebook memory from 2 years ago (they are occasionally useful), and the other is Eric’s TV viewing this afternoon. Oh, and the outfit in the picture here, blame Stacie too! Or love her, anyway. I’d love anyone to get it for me, or something similar, thats for sure.

Anyway, there is, seemingly, something called UFO day, and it happens on 24th June for most. Seems that some celebrate 2nd July, due to first Roswell sighting, but its the former that clearly caught my eye 2 years ago. Which caused me to post, on that day…

CJ and Toddspacecraft

in tribute to said day. No, very sadly, I dont own any of them, I only wish I did, especially the more luxuriously sized one in the first picture. Unfortunately, as far as I know, alien delivery of said craft is still very much to be advised lol! 😛 Would make flying to US a whole lot easier, and quicker, for sure!

As to what I’d want to wear for the flight, well, the spacesuit that lady is wearing is pretty cool, I must say. But fine, this would be a whole lot more fun, for sure, and I would love to have this suit for myself, if anyone is offering?

alien-suit

Yeah, could you imagine the fun, an actual alien, flying a space craft like that, giggle? As I say, thanks to Stacie for that pic.

Lastly, as is his want from time, to time, Eric likes to tease me (well, I assume its tease?) by watching these programs on strange TV channels about all these Alien spacecraft and the like being seen by folks in the US. Yes, I had one of those afternoons today lol. Lets just say that if Aliens want to come and get me, give me a space flight, transform me into an alien, or just have some, err, fun with me, I’d love it. No, I’m not expecting too many obliging viewers of this blog in the Solar System, or beyond, but a lady can hope!

Equally, as I say, if someone wants to generously buy me a really nice alien suit to wear (transformation capable, or otherwise), then I would be a happy old lady!

Right, video time. What I’m sure people would say of me, wearing that alien suit, flying that spacecraft… Of course, it might be wearing me, instead of me wearing it? 😉

Ain’t missing you

To be fair, I’ve never been a big drinker of alcohol at any point in my life, though I certainly have enjoyed the odd strong drink from time to time, mainly when eating out, or flying somewhere. Generally a glass of wine, or a vodka and coke, but that really is about it for me.

So fine, when I was told last July, that because of the strong(ish) pain killers they were putting me on, I had to stop drinking alcohol, it wasnt the end of the world for me. Yes, there have been a few air flights where I’ve missed that drink, or when celebrating my 60th (twice this year), that it might have been nice to celebrate a bit more, but such is life. Christmas, I had non alcoholic wine, and last September, I stayed off the pills for 3 days (period to clear system), so I could drink at my friends wedding, but that really has been it! And yes, then, I was taking them again as soon as I got back to the hotel. I wasnt in real pain (non stressful activity, and hot weather for a week helped), but I quickly got back to the pill plan, and was grateful for them!

What struck me this week though, was when I took in a couple of bottles of alcoholic wine type drinks for a tombola as prizes at work, was that I didnt miss not being able to drink them. There may be a time when I dont need the pills again, and can have the odd drink again, but in truth, I’m not sure that will happen given the state of my back, but we will have to wait and see.

And yes, flying to and from Seattle last month, I did think it would have been nice to have had wine with the meal, but did I really miss it, probably not? Fine, I know people on the same pills, and same strength pills as me, who do drink, and have no issues with it. But me, I’m a good, obedient robot (I wish) type, who does as I’m told, so…

Now, if only I could find those robotization pills to take, lol…? 😉

Right, video time. A Brit, who found fame in the US is tonights pick. Sorry, booze, but…

Hit me baby, 37 times!

Could also be called, dont judge a story by its title! Oh, and PS, please dont hit me, even once. I might have a few kinks, but being spanked most definitely isnt one of them! Oh fine, that title, I guess?

https://mcstories.com/BirthdaySpankings/index.html

Yes, after far too long, I have switched it to the website address, rather than the URL one, which we had to use for a while, and I just never switched my favorite setting, but now…

Dont get me wrong, I know some people get a buzz out of spanking, or being spanked, but it does absolutely nothing for me. I’m not saying electrics is the only way I enjoy pain, but having my butt smacked most definitely does nothing for me. And yes, I know, I have tried it, hated it.

Yes, there is, unsurprisingly, some spanking going down in this story, but in truth, its just a short section, in a rather lovely romantic MC story that I got to read last week, which is why I’m recommending it. Lets just say that it may look like the ‘victim’ here is only going to get pain, but in truth, in the end, she gets far more pleasure, than pain!

So yes, I started it, thinking how soon I could excuse myself from it, given the subject matter, or indeed, whether I should even bother to start reading it, but I was so glad I did. So no, I have no plans to ever judge a story by its title, ever again! So if you like romance, with a bit of kink, well worth reading!

OK, video time. Firstly the original version

Alternatively, another chance to see Leo Moracchioli provide a very different version of the same song.

Or maybe both?

The simple way to save money

One thing I’ve learnt over the years is to always be wise with money, and try not to spend more than is really necessary. One new trick that I learned recently is that you shouldnt assume that the quoted rail fare online, is the best price you can pay for your ticket. On the popular routes, with advance fares, it generally is the case, but when taking a journey, where for whatever reason (mainly using more than 1 rail company) there isnt an advance fare, just paying the one offered to you isnt the best thing to do.

For example, today, I was booking the tickets for myself, and Eric, to go from Huddersfield, to Inverness in September. Yes, we’ve just reached the point where the advance fares for those dates kick in, and given his lack of patience in such matters… I got it done!

Thing is, if you go on the National Rail website, and look up the fare for such a trip, all it offers you is a ‘anytime off peak return’ for just over £98 each, using our Senior railcards. No other options, take it, or leave it. Thing is, if I tell you that I paid just over £75 each for our fares, quite legally…wow!

There are sites dedicated to fare splitting, in other words, the system works out the cheapest option for the journey, by using more than 1 ticket for each section of the journey, and then quotes you the price for the trip. If I say that my reduced fare figure actually includes about £5 worth of handling charges, relating to the saving made, and for them arranging your tickets for you, even more crazy! So yes, in theory, if I had the patience, and dedication, I could have done it for about £70! But no, thats too much like hard work, for the money saved, lol!

But yes, any ‘innocent’ just going on the railway websites (individual companies only offer same standard fare) would pay nearly £25 more than me, for the same journey! But of course, in an ideal world, the train companies dont want you to know this, and just add to their profits!

I dont know if this happens in other parts of the world, or if it is just greed on the part of our rail companies, but be warned. If you know your exact travel times, then go somewhere like https://splitticketing.com/ and check you’re actually getting the best deal possible. Sadly for me, split ticketing with airlines isnt quite so easy!

Right, video time. Rare to find Abba actually singing live, but I have. That song about what I’ve saved today, lol. I’ve cut the piece directly to the song here. If you want to hear the group talking beforehand, just pull the timer back to zero, OK?
