Watching me, watching you

One of things I suspect we all do in these days of social media, is ‘follow’ famous people that we like and admire, or indeed otherwise. Yes, even I do that to some degree, though probably do it with less people than some! In some cases, I’m pretty sure that the person doing the social media posting isnt the celebrity, or if it is, they only post a small percentage of the stuff.

There are others who do post (and in some cases, we wish they didnt!) on Twitter, and Facebook, and you know its them. But normally its a case of you, the fan follows them, and they naturally dont bother to follow you. Fair enough, why would you expect them to show much interest in your average life, lets face it?

As far as I know, no one follows, or in the case of Facebook, friends me, because they think I’m a brilliant actress, who is going to make it big some day. I certainly have friends in the entertainment industry, but I’d have to believe thats a friend thing, not that they think I’m going to make it big, and…I know, Elizabeth, by the way, one day I will, but we’ll still be great friends for sure, anyway! 😉

So fine, when I went on my Twitter page earlier today, and saw I had notifications, I got a real surprise when I saw what one of them was. For those in the US, especially in the Denver area, or who are fans of the craziness that is ‘Around The Horn’ will know the name of Woody Paige. I suspect others will have heard of him too, and I’m certainly a fan of his on Twitter, but even so, when I saw he was following me back, I was absolutely thrilled! I have no idea what I’ve done to deserve that honor, but yes, I’m delighted by it.

Oh fine, if Harvey Weinstein starts following me, I might get concerned, but I think I’m far too old for him! 😛 But yes, when someone who is famous, and who you admire, follows you back, oh wow! So thank you, Woody, very much appreciated.

Right, the video. One of the lesser hits for this group, but very apt for a moment like this.

Yes, when I become a famous actress (stop laughing, all), I must remember to follow my fans, as well as the other way around too.

Oh, Doctor, Doctor?

Right, lets go from the sublime, political matter of the US National Anthem, and various sports people, to the ridiculous, and talk about the state of my back!

Yes, its an actual fact, I’ve been told today that the results of the bone density scan are in, but unfortunately, the nurse dealing with the matter wasnt in today, and the receptionist admitted to me that the results were in ‘medical speak’, and that therefore she preferred that the nurse discuss them with me, rather than her, as they probably wouldnt have meant a lot to me, or her, in truth. Given I’m working tomorrow, it will be Thursday before I get the results now, but so be it.

Seeing as how, despite the painkillers, and various anti inflammatory gels and creams that I’ve been given to deal with matters, that I still have some degree of latent pain from it, I doubt the results are great, but we will see. But given that so far, I havent actually been given any pills, potions, or other delights to actually cure it, I will just have to wait and see the end results now. But at least the wait is nearly over!

No, I dont expect to be ‘put down’ or anything because of it, mainly because they dont do that sort of thing to people, only poor unfortunate animals, its fair to say. Equally, I dont really expect to be offered a new cybernetically enhanced back, or full body makeover, though yes, I cant deny I would love that! I’m sure they would if they could, but yes, unless some mad scientist knows otherwise, I dont think they’re actually available at present! 😦 If someone does know otherwise, then yes, please, as soon as possible, if not sooner!

Being more realistic, I expect its going to be pills, of some kind, and some strength, to be honest. The 2 obvious ones (and it could be both), are estrogen (menopausal aged woman), and/or calcium. I hope its not too much of the latter, as it can lead to, err, bowel issues, of a delicate kind, as I have already discovered, after taking some voluntarily, and then stopping because of the results!

What I do pretty much know already, without even hearing the medical views, is that my days of working a 5 day week are numbered, if not already over. At present, its all the body can do to do 2 days in a row, let alone more! It will mean cutting back on the delights of life, like travelling twice a year to the US (pretty sure I can still manage one, and maybe 2 next year, due to funds already saved?), and it will mean that I will be doing the wheelchair through the airport thing again, probably for the rest of my travelling life.

One thing I will need to work out on that, is that both times, this trip, I was being met at the other end. Further trips, that might not always be happening, and I guess they would have to let me do it, but it might be more fun! In fact, at Manchester, I did the last bit from baggage carousel, to meeting point on foot, as it was easier for the wheelchair to stay that side of the building, and the helper just dealt with my cases for me, but anyway…

But yes, if anyone wants to provide me with a nice new, young, frisky, cybernetically upgraded body before my next planned flight in May, I would love that. In theory, I could have need to fly next month, but funds dont permit at present. But yes, NYC, for the reading of a musical, for an actress, well, I’d love to be there, but…

Right, video. I suspect this is as close as you’re ever going to get to a live Thompson Twins performance, though I’m not convinced all the keyboard work was live, all the same.

Medical trials. Of course it will all go fine?

Pre warning to all reading this, there is a large element of tongue in cheek in this, and I only hope someone doesnt ‘kill’ me for writing up this version. I could say its her own fault for blogging about a horror movie called ‘The Last Experiment’, and she, err, inspired me to this. Well, most of this…As she said of that movie in her blog, its scientifically inaccurate in so many ways, and so is the latter part of this.

First, the serious stuff, covered in a lot more brevity than my main blog. So if you want to know more, and know how to find it, go there! In May, I went to a clinical research company in Leeds, for a job interview in their call centre. Fine, to cut it short, it was one of my first attempts at a job interview post redundancy, and I made a total mess of something I still love to this day, the competency based questions. I did get a tour of the office though, and was impressed by what I saw of the place. At the time, it did cross my mind that maybe I should come back as a research volunteer, but then the job hunt went on, and I forgot about that idea.

Then in September, on Facebook, I saw they were advertising for volunteers to undergo medical trials. And given how well the job hunting was going…not…I thought again about the idea of doing this. But given I was away for a week in mid September, and then for 4 glorious weeks in October, beyond a polite inquiry, I took things no further. Though fine, I did ‘like’ their page on Facebook, and got to read the entertaining postings someone was making there. A vast majority are serious business stuff, but a few, less so.

So I’ve decided to take the plunge, be a brave old girl, and volunteered to go on a trial. Actually doing one that could be beneficial to me, as its a new trial for an arthritis drug, and given how stiff some of my old joints are, might benefit me, as well as them, results wise. My screening is actually next Thursday, so as well as everything else, I might just find out how healthy, or unhealthy I really am! If I pass that, the trial itself starts towards the end of November, should be interesting.

(This is the point where it gets less serious, in case my friend thinks otherwise)

And of course the only electrodes that will be attached to my body at any point in the screening will be when they check my heart. None will be placed on my head, and none will affect my thoughts, and brain patterns in any way, shape or form. They will only take blood needed for a blood test, and no strange solutions will be injected into my body at any point.

And during the actual trial, the capsules I will be given will only contain the drugs involved in the treatment of the arthritis testing. Nothing whatsoever that controls the mind, body, or transforms you into a robot! And again, any needles used for blood tests, and the like will not be delivering any nanites, or other sinister material into my blood stream. Nor will any EEG, or ECG checks that might be done be anything more than that, proper checks. No sinister electrical jolts to heart, or mind.

(Hopefully at this point, someone is roaring with laughter, and not threatening to tear me limb from limb next Thursday, before the screening. Well, if she wants to make notes to pass on to the medical staff lol…)

No, I know, nothing naughty, or wicked is going to happen to me at the screening, or during the trial, but I’m probably the only volunteer they’ve ever had who might wish it does! So dear, if you’re still reading this, and not laughing too loudly, if you want to set me up, in a ‘good’ way, at either, or both, I wouldnt mind in the slightest!

Fine, the video, rather apt. I only discovered tonight that Tom Bailey, formerly of the Thompson Twins is performing live again, great news for me. As I say, the video works for this
