Too late for paper?

Dont get me wrong, I know I’m old, and old fashioned to match, but a few days ago I realized just how out of touch with modern life that I am.

You know how it is with these sports teams you follow (I refuse to say support, I cant get that enthusiastic, lol), they send you tons of emails re tickets for games and stuff, because they dont really notice that you’re several thousand (or more) miles from the stadium, and the likelihood of you ever buying a ticket of any kind, more than once in a blue moon, you get my drift?

Well, this week, given that the new NFL season isnt a million miles away, I got an email from the Buffalo Bills about tickets for the games this season. No, not one begging me to buy tickets for the games for once, though I’ve had plenty, in truth. But no, as far as I know, no plans, or intentions to go to one, especially as the fans seem to be a pretty homophobic bunch, judging by forums, and social media at least.

You know that up to now, a lot of people print off their tickets from their computers in a document form, you show them at the game, and they let you in? I know I’ve done so in the past, on a few occasions, most recently for the Mariners games in May, in Seattle. Anyway, Buffalo wrote to say that these will no longer be accepted, that ticket entry will now only be via your smart phone! Ah well, I wasnt likely to go to a game before, but certainly wont be now!

I know, people buy their travel tickets on their phones, make payments by contactless cards, and everything else, but for those of us old enough not to care for these things, to take away our chance to go, sad day. Oh fine, Bills, I’ll go and support a team that takes good old paper tickets, not that they’ll notice the difference lol!

Maybe I should start an ‘I dont want to own a Smart Phone’ group on Social Media, and hopefully I wouldnt be the only member!

Right, video time. The only one that came to mind when thinking of Paper, and Late, was this one. Not Genesis’s best moment, but hey, its fun!

The only way I’ll fall in love?

Well, fine, for a while last night, I thought tonight’s blogging would be easy. Memories of the previous time that England were in a World Cup Final, 52 years ago, and all that. They were even winning when I got home, but things went downhill from there, so instead you get this…! Yes, resisting being rude about that Orange faced Russian guy visiting here from the US, trying to be good!

So instead, lacking any great subject matter, lets rely on that good old back up idea, a look at one of this week’s stories. This one, in fact

https://mcstories.com/MagicTinder/index.html

Now, as my regular followers know, my views on Smart Phones, Apps, and the like, is pretty much that I dont know, and I dont care about them. But still, this amused me. You can guess I dont know a lot (or less) about Tinder, but I gather its some sort of dating thing, where you do one thing with the picture if interested in someone, and do the opposite if not? Then if they feel the same way about you…? One things for sure, even if I was on it, the chances of anyone being interested in me, matches my chances of flying to Alpha Centauri in an alien spacecraft, at light speed! 😛

So fine, a story where if you fancy someone on this Tinder thing, that they have to reciprocate, has to amuse me. No, I dont think I could be that cruel to anyone, but apart from that… Well, if I could get Rotwang to give me the Maria makeover, then maybe, but otherwise…

Let me say that beyond this fictional, magical version of Tinder, I have no idea if it works, or not? I cant believe it does for anyone, but maybe for some…? Besides which, I suspect most of the people I’d be attracted to, of a suitable age for me, probably arent on Tinder either! So fine, if thats what smart phones are like (and fine, I know, in real life, they’re not), another reason for me not to bother to get one!

So, if any wealthy millionaire wants to fall in love with me (ha ha), lets just do it the old fashioned way, OK? 😉 If he then wants to turn me into an obedient, Stepford type wife, no complaints from me!

Alright, video time. This guy is probably remembered by most for one song, classically used as a ‘Rick Roll’ on You Tube. No, its not that song, though it could have been apt. Its his version of the Nat King Cole classic, and its very good, live. Now, if he wants to fancy me on Tinder, either version, I’d have no complaints!

Getting modern, in one sense at least.

As a lot of my readers will know, I’m not a big one for modern technology. I claim its my inner Clara Johnson, keeping me a 30’s girl, with 30’s attitude lol. Well, strictly, there is my witty comment about having no interest in controlling technology, more desiring to be controlled by it, but anyway… Yes, I read an amusing piece about a very clever Smartwatch this week on the EMCSA, which amused me, but then I realized (from reading other things online) that you need other smart gadgets (presumably a phone?) on your body to make them work, so no use to me! No, I’m happy without any mobile/cell phone, let alone a smart one! Especially when I see what people pay per month to use one, seriously…? Wow!

But yes, in one sense at least, I’m getting too modern for mine, and certainly Clara’s liking lol! Its fair to say that for the last 15 years or so, I’ve not had many Christmas presents to buy for anyone. 3 or 4, and that would be tops! But, all the same, I always took a day out to do my shopping, generally going over to Manchester for a day out, when I would buy the few items I needed for others, and probably a few things for myself!

However, the last 3 years I’ve very much got into this online shopping lark. Lets face it, when the weather is freezing, as it is at present, its a much nicer option to do it from the warmth of home. Probably not altogether a bad thing, I dont end up buying several items for myself that I dont really need, I save on the rail fare, lunch, and a few other things! And lets face it, this year, with the state of my back, its probably better that I dont go out more often than I really have to! At the same time, those trips were fun, and I guess I miss them, and I guess I feel sorry for the stores, but then again, the amount I spend wouldnt keep them in business anyway!

But yes, its strange now, when I do all this, to look back on the days when a ‘fun’ trip to do your Christmas shopping, for ‘whoever’ was part of the build up to Christmas. Now, we are far too guilty of just sitting at home, and doing it all online! Ah well, seems it is true, Christmas isnt what it used to be, lol!

Right, video time. I thought I’d posted most decent Christmas songs from the past, but I’d never found this one before. Until now…
