Is it Christmas already?

I know that in theory at least, the US tends to let Thanksgiving just about get out of the way before the Christmas celebrations begin, but unfortunately, over here in the UK, we dont have that buffer to get in the way. In truth, I think we were barely into November before the city centers over here were getting ‘dressed up’ for Christmas. Dont get me wrong, I dont object to all that fuss, but I do think the beginning of November is a bit early for all that. Me, I think beginning of December would be fine, but anyway…? Views?

I suspect a lot of it comes down to that matter called modern life. In truth, with so many people nowadays shopping online (guilty as charged, easier for me, even more so now) for their needs, I suppose the shops think the sooner they get people to think about spending ridiculous amounts on presents for Christmas, the better? Surely they are only going to buy presents once, regardless, but anyway…? I know, US literally goes crazy with Black Friday, one day after Thanksgiving, but at least thats nearly the end of November!

Thankfully, nowadays, I dont have many presents to buy, equally I dont get many, but that is all fine by me. If someone wants to get me a complete robot suit to wear, then fine, but in truth, my primary need is probably more some kind of very soft, lumbar supporting back that I could use on my chair. Oh, if it comes with soft seat too, all the better, but my back is sadly my main ailment now. I did have a link to something like that, but have lost it, but I’m sure its traceable on internet, but no one reading this will be looking anyway! Might get one myself, but it will have to wait until after November payday, as this is the month my reduced hours have caught up with me, so having to be careful, to avoid breaking into savings. I know, I could, but I’m crazy that way!

Yes, I’m sure I will look forward to, and enjoy the whole Christmas build up in time, but I still think the beginning of November is far too early, thats all!

Right, video time. What the shopping people seem to want it to be, for at least 2 months of the year! Yes, live version, never found that before!

Thats the price?

I must admit, that when it comes to clothes, and fashion, and the cost of it, I fall into the practical Yorkshire woman type role, of saying “How Much?” in clothes shops, when I look at the prices. This fact is probably not helped that in recent times, the vast majority of my purchases have either been in charity shops, or budget shops like Primark, Ethel Austin, or when in the US, Old Navy, and Target, rather than the more luxury brands, or to put it more correctly, the more normally priced clothing shops!

Yes, unfortunately it got the better of me in LA last October, when I saw a shop selling vintage style (or genuine vintage) clothing, but then I looked at the price tickets! No, some of them were probably fair, but compared to what I used to, and also, because I was trying not to run up costs, I passed on them.

This amusing fact has again came to light, because I won £30 worth of shopping vouchers, for stores in the Arcadia Group, and I started looking at stuff online, and in the shops (There is a unit selling clothing for a number of these companies very close to my new workplace), and going “How much?” when I see the prices, even if I’m not really paying it!

I saw a dress, for example, that by these sort of stores, is probably reasonably priced at £15, but given what I’m used to paying for things, I was shocked at the price. I know, its what you’re used to, and everything, so no, didnt get it yet. I also saw a top that looked like a modern styling of what a flapper would happily have worn, but it was £12, and I did the same thing. Yes, in the end, I regretted doing that, said ‘what the hell’, and went back to get it on Friday, and they were sold out! I know, my fault, but…I can at least say that I wanted to check I could wear it to work (spaghetti type straps, not allowed in a number of workplaces), but I could, but still I didnt rush to buy it, so yes, my fault, in a sense!

I know, silly thing to do, especially when they dont actually cost me anything, but thats the way I’ve lived, I guess? Ah well, I still have the vouchers, they dont expire for a long time yet, so…

But fine, me, and clothing prices, always going to be a fun issue, I guess?

The video mentions the price of something, but its not clothing lol. Mind, I’m equally as awful at love, so…

Shopping with ‘Jean’, and other tales of the last 2 days

So fine, picking up from where I left off last time around.

Yesterday morning, at 11.00, I was picked up from my hotel by S, and whisked back to Worcester, to catch the bus back to Albany. Another entertaining chat en route, which led to me discovering that in fact ‘Jean’ was still in my head, and just needed releasing, to make a show. First S did it, just to sort things out between him, her, and me. More correctly, him, my sub concious and me, but that’s just nit picking. Next thing I know, I’m told to do it for myself, and lo and behold, here’s Jeannie!

But before anyone gets any ideas, there are only 2 people that can wake her up, S, and me! Carla is safely tucked away though, before anyone thinks otherwise.

So fine, I’ve quickly discovered that there is a firm that makes Trans Pennine Express look punctual, and that’s Greyhound buses! Anyway, we finally get away from Worcester about 20 minutes late, and head for the Mass Pike, and the journey home. Big snag, accident on the Mass Pike, was a crawl (or slower) for the first 10 miles, and we finally reached Albany 2.5 hours late! Consolation, the most wonderfully sweet taxi driver on the way home, lovely guy, got a better tip than I normally would give, for sure!

Fine, it was well publicised on the news, and on websites that Albany was going to get hit by a big snow storm about the middle of today. So fine, I went out early, and not far, to a nearby Mall. Alright, time for a little fun, I let ‘Jean’ go shopping instead. Now, that was fun! Main moment of amusement, well it seems that Jean possesses quite a Kansas accent. Slightly combined with my own, but predominantly…

Fun moment, when I mentioned about flying back to the UK to one of the cashiers, given my Kansas accent, she asked me when I moved to the UK. I muttered some random year, and just left it at that! Alright, I did think about getting my sub concious to swap me back, change accents totally, (and huskiness of voice) and confuse her, but I’m a good girl, so I didnt.

By the time I got back out of there, the snow was in free fall, with plenty on the ground. Sadly this morning, I’d lived up to my blonde reputation, and only gone out in shoes, and a medium ‘strength’ coat, instead of boots and anorak. I knew it was coming, so why I did that…no idea?

Its different, seeing so much snow, when its only November. The last time I saw this, was about 2000, in Kirkenes, Norway, and thats the other side of the Arctic Circle! Mind, that was the beginning of November, not the end, so…

Right, you’re now up to date, and no, despite the clearness of the roads at least, I’ve decided to forego the Ice Hockey match in town tonight. I’m not the biggest fan of the sport, but if the weather had been good, I might well have gone. But now…

The video, sums up today’s weather really.

Why its dangerous to let me go out shopping!

Why, because I end up buying items that I have no idea when, or where I’m going to wear them. And yes, unsurprisingly, it was to Wakefield, rapidly becoming my favourite shopping spot. Well fine, it already is, but…

No, I cant guarantee it will be my last trip of the year, but it looks a safe bet, and given where I work, I should know these things. My days off for the rest of the year are Tuesday and Sunday next week (former is beauty treatment day, latter is last Sunday before Christmas), then Christmas Eve (no way am I going shopping anywhere then!), Christmas Day (pretty obvious), and the Sunday after, when I will be on my own (and public transport is awful anyway). After that, well the next day off is New Years Day, and there are no buses then, and besides which it will be 2014 by then! So, as I say, good bet that today was it.

Surprisingly, 2 weeks before the big day, Wakefield wasnt overly crowded. I know, its midweek, but…To be honest, given all my purchases today (apart from my coffee and cake) were from charity shops, I havent helped the retailers much myself!

Most of it was practical stuff, 4 tops, and 1 skirt, which will all get used for work, and things. Well fine, the skirt to work is only a maybe bet, but…I should do really, they seem to be better for the circulation in my legs than trousers, but its just…I know, I know! Err, one of those tops, no, fails the work test. But…let me explain,

At work, we have a rule that all tops should cover the shoulders completely. Fine, understandable, though some choose to ignore it, and get away with it, but anyway…I try to be a good girl lol! One of the things I love about Wakefield is the quality of clothing options in the charity shops there, some really nice stuff, at very good prices. One especially, the Wakefield Hospice shop, is the creme de la creme. Seriously, I saw a gorgeous silver dress there today, must have cost a fortune new, for £15. Thankfully it was a size 12, with a zip at the back, so no way would I have got into it, because otherwise…drool…

But sneakily, they also, in a size 14, had a top that looked quite literally as if it had arrived direct from the 1920′s. It hadnt, its good a ‘made in Asia, somewhere’ tag in it, so clearly it hadnt, but…Snag, its got nothing more than 2 thin(ish) straps over the shoulders, so I cannot wear it to work. And to be honest, in that sense, whats the point in buying it, even at £4.50? Even though its perfect for a Flapper…? So I talked myself out of it, left it in the shop, even though I regretted doing so.

Fine, I walked round the corner, and after about 5 minutes, changed my mind, and went back and bought it! No idea when, or where I wear it, but, its mine! I know, I know, silly thing to do, but I would have regretted it for ever more if I hadnt.

But anyway, famous last words and all that, it should be the last silly buy of 2013! Stop laughing now!

The video, a delightful piece from the 1970’s. And enough pretty girls to keep the men happy too. And no, none of the blondes are me!

Just What I Always Wanted

Yes, I had one of those shopping moments today, when I found an item I’d always longed to own, but never thought I would find. What is it, a pair of silver trousers! And even better, they were an absolute bargain, just £5!

Yes, alright, for sometime I’ve owned a pair of metallic silver leggings. Yes, great fun for me, but not exactly something that a middle aged woman is going to wear out on the street, lets face it, they are designed for the young, party going types, though I suspect they go in as much for pelmet length skirts as leggings anyway, but…

And yes, I’ve got a few silver tops, including sparkly ones, they seem to be easier to find in all honesty. Some of them are meant to be short dresses, but for me, they are tops lol! With my knees, and things…no chance of being otherwise. Its funny, in recent years, trousers in a multitude of colours have appeared, not just the traditional black, blue and grey. And yes, I have got a nice pair in purple, and a green elasticated pair in my collection already. But a pair in silver, or indeed gold, never seen any, well, not at what I call a sensible price anyway, I’m sure some trendy designers do them at £200 a shot, but I’m not made of money, you know!

So, anyway, cut a long story short. I had an afternoon trip out to Doncaster today. I know, hardly the height of the glamour world, but I like it, all the same. Having scoured the shopping centre down town, I venture outside, as I love strolling around markets (decent one here), and also there is a very good charity shop in that direction too. Yes, found a very nice pair of shoes there (£4.99), comfy brogue type in size 7, just perfect as my current pair are 8’s, and without socks are just a little too big in all honesty. They dont slip off as such, but are loose enough to be annoying, and rub a bit. Err, yes, they are silver btw. These were blue, nice enough for work, but not wide enough sadly. Ah well… I must stop wearing socks, women dont wear socks with shoes, so…

Then I see this shop opposite, everything £5, so the banner in the window said. As one never to miss a bargain, I checked it out. And what do I see, silver trousers! Yes, they had gold too, but…Snag, biggest pair they have is a size 12, and as you know by now, I’m normally a size 14. So I grumble to myself, and leave them on the rail. Go to a bargain shoe shop nearby, find a nice pair in black at £12.99, and buy them, still thinking if only the charity shop pair had fitted…

Anyway, back past this other shop, and I think, well, they’ve got a fitting room, lets try on those size 12’s, and see if they fit. I know they wont, or so I think, but…either they are generously sized, or its a US size thing (no idea, where stock was from btw), but they fit! So unsurprisingly, they came home with me!

The naughty side of me thinks I should wear a silver top, the silver trousers and shoes to work, and see what reaction I get. To be honest, the whole silver thing might be quite apt for the chaotic mayhem that will be Cheltenham festival week at work, but not sure the bosses would see it that way lol! Wonder if I can find a silver hood too lol? 😉

But yes, delighted to find a pair at last, I must say. Probably should have got a gold pair too in hindsight, but too late now! Didnt even look to see if they had my size, but probably did.

The video, an under rated artist from the 80’s, the song title you might have already guessed!

Oh, and as an exclusive for my readers here, the latex skirt arrived today. If you’re good, I might post a picture of me wearing it in a few days time. I know, middle aged women, and latex clothing and all that, but look at it positively, its not a catsuit or anything, so shouldnt look too bad?

First they give thanks, then they go shopping…

Yes, in an ideal world, I wanted to post this yesterday, but various things caught up with me, so… Lets settle for belated Thansgiving greetings to all my American readers, and leave it at that. The poor turkeys over there get a raw deal, not only Christmas, they have to survive Thanksgiving first lol!

But thats not just it. Though this isnt an official holiday over there, for many, its akin to one, yes, its called Black Friday. Especially black for all shop staff, from what I’ve seen. It seems to be the day that everybody starts buying stuff for Christmas, lets just leave it at that. The amount of emails I’ve had today from over there, offering reduced price specials for Black Friday is nobody’s business! No, I havent bought anything there, delivery costs are too much for that, even if I’m sure there were some great bargains there. But I’ve seen you tube film, looks like its gone crazy over there!

To be fair, I’ve done some shopping this week myself, mainly because its been my main chance to do any Christmas shopping, so I’ve taken it. OK, I’ve got a few things for myself too, including the famous dress of course. For those who want to see it, and wont see it at the dinner, the link is

http://www.riverisland.com/women/dresses/maxi-dresses/gold-metallic-knit-maxi-dress-626065

Thanks to some shops in Dewsbury, I now have a clutch bag, and a few pieces of jewellery to match. Thanks to a store in Huddersfield, I now have a coat too. I must be crazy, given its all pretty much a one night thing, but its done now lol! The only thing I havent got in gold, shoes! And yes, I did find a pair of pumps in the right colour yesterday, but given I have wide feet, I couldnt squeeze into them. I’d prefer a wedge heel, or a very tiny heel anyway, but unless I see something relatively cheap, the shoes will be black lol! So if anyone has, or knows someone with such a pair locally, in size 8, I wouldnt mind…

And now is when I find out if anyone in this house still reads my blog! Someone has always teased me that I tend to go out in trousers, not a skirt, and definitely not a dress! The reaction when they heard I was wearing a dress for the dinner was quite good lol. So anyway, tomorrow is someone’s birthday here, and we are going out for a meal, and then to the theatre in Leeds. Funny thing is, not only do I not own a little black dress, I didnt own a black skirt either. Well I do, but its one of those short ones, which I wouldnt wear because of either the state of my knees, or because of the weather. No, I dont know why I got it, but I did get some daft stuff in the early days, I must admit. So, while in Huddersfield, I looked in a few charity shops for a suitable black skirt, and managed to find a couple that appealed, and were long. One was lined, one wasnt, so no contest given the time of year. And yes, I’m wearing the heels tomorrow, so…and they at least go with black, and silver, so should be fun! Yes, I have a great silver top to wear! I think its meant to be a short dress, but for me, its a top lol! 😛

So unless this gets read here, someone might be in for a surprise tomorrow afternoon.

So, in tribute to Black Friday, and what I’ve been doing this week, I present
