Being Boiled?

Question for readers, a famous pop group, but a song that definitely wasnt a major hit for them, remember it? Answers at end of blog, as per usual.

Today, I had a flotation tank session planned already, which is something I look forward to, for so many reasons. However, sadly I have to report that since Friday, the state of my back, more specifically my spine, hasnt been good. So yesterday, I checked to see if the infra red sauna might be available for a session prior to the float, as heat does it some good. Oh, and as mentioned previously, I set myself up to try it, enclosed in a sauna suit.

My amusement started when it was given to me. Yes, it was a wonderful shade of metallic silver, and elasticated everywhere, to keep the heat in, of course. Oh, and hooded too! Quite seriously, all it needed was gloves, socks/boots, and a face cover in metallic silver, and I’d have had the perfect robot look. Oh fine, I would have loved that, but anyway… I did actually find I was also provided with a pair of gloves (non matching, unfortunately), but only after the event, sadly!

So then, in I go, to be ‘boiled’ (I called it roasted at the time, but boiled works for the video) at 140 degrees, for about 30 minutes! In truth, about 10 minutes in, I stood up, and yes, the spine was a lot more obliging, even then. OK, and to ‘excite’ the guys (and maybe a few girls?), I could feel the sweat dripping down between my boobs, quite profusely, even under the suit!

But yes, seriously, if someone had popped a helmet over my head, I could easily have believed I was being turned into a robot. Sadly, not to be! Yes, I was almost disappointed when the heating bars went off, as my session was over. Mind, I kept the ‘robot suit’ on until it was time to go in the pod, no shock there.

Will I do it again? Oh, absolutely! Would I love to do it with matching gloves, footwear, and face cover, even more so!

Oh yes, and the flotation pod session was fun too. I managed to get Clara to come out to play again, and she even sounded disappointed when the music started back up, and she had to let me back into my mind. Maybe before the dance routine in March, I should let her stay, lol? Mind, she might find my body less receptive to her own to classy dance steps, lol?

Right, video time. A very early Human League song, a while before they became really famous. I picked this video over the standard one, because of the silver outfits. I would say why couldnt I be offered a part like that (I would have been 16 when it was made), but its a Russian movie, in the Soviet era, so that might be why? Therefore I know nothing of the movie, beyond this.

Only make believe?

Lets cover a couple of amusing robot moments in one blog tonight.

Firstly, a faux pas from Russia, or which at least turned into one when people discovered the truth! At a technology forum in Yaroslavl, the Russians tried to claim they had created a hi tech robot that could match dancers, and so many other things. Snag is, as was quickly spotted, there were no sensors, or anything on the robot body that would allow it to match the steps of the dancers, and also there were a few times when it got a little ‘over enthusiastic’ in this matching mode. As was later discovered, and widely discussed, the reason this robot was so good, was the fact there was a human inside a robot suit doing the performance!

Its actually a costume made by a company called Show Robots, who do actually make very excellent robot costumes (I’ve seen them before in ‘action’) if you can afford the price. And clearly Russia considered $3800 reasonable to try and get one up on the rest of the world. Of course, now its backfired…? Oops! Let me say that if they’re trying to hastily get rid of the costume, claim they never had it, and all that, I can send them my address, I’d love it.

Well, it might be handy for me, and not just in the fantasy sense (even though it works for that) as well. Back in the late 1990’s, I played a robot for a friend. I’d like to think I made a good job of it, though the costume was nothing very special, definitely far from as elite as this. Anyway, talking to one of the ‘content creators’ over at Fembot Central, she was suggesting that maybe I should do it again. My comment was that at my age, it could only be done in a full robot suit, as I’m 60 now! She just said to go ahead and do that, and fine, if I had the finances to get a suit, and film something, maybe I would? Yes, this suit would certainly solve the issue, even if its not quite fembot sexy enough, lol?

But yes, believe me, if someone got me a decent/good full body robot suit, and gave me the chance to perform, I’d definitely go for it! Think the chances of that happening are roughly zero, but we will see? Anyone up for it, lol? Would be amazing to wear something like that costume, regardless.

OK, video time. Child was one of those 70’s boy bands that never really made it. This, a couple of minor hits, and that really was it. But yes, its easier to find this version of the song than a 50’s one for live performance

A reason to miss the US in 2026!

In truth, being practical, I suspect that 2024, or 2025 will be my last trip to the US, due to financial issues, post retirement, even assuming I last that long, as given I have no idea how long my back will be up to work, or long distance travel, I may not even get that far. But everything permitting… 2024 being my retirement year, and if I have enough saved (unlikely now I can only do a 4 day week), I might push for 2025, but as that would also be the end of my current passport, that may well be it? Of course, if I even want to go into Europe… We will have to wait and see? Maybe I’ll just retire to Blackpool, and live the life of a lady from the past, lol?

But yes, this week, I’ve been given an even better reason to avoid the US in 2026, the awarding of the Soccer World Cup to North America (primarily the US) in that year, something I will happily avoid, assuming I live that long, of course. I know, its great for tourism, if you like the sport, but as someone who dislikes it intently…I’ll happily pass!

Of course, today is an apt day to post this, given that the 2018 version started today, in Russia. Not a country that I, as a Brit would be rushing to visit currently, even less so as a Civil Servant, and all the extra issues that might bring. Of course, the irony is, that the US hasnt qualified, so Trump wont be going to see his friend, Putin, so… Fine, kidding, OK, I think? 😛

I have entered a few free competitions revolving around the event, if only because should I get things really right (and I got today’s score wrong, for starters), I could win some extra money, which would be really handy at present. But no, me, and soccer, no  chance, beyond the fact that these things are pure guesswork, and I can make guesses lol!

So no, I neither know, nor care who might be going to win it. I assume it will be one of the usual candidates, but as to me watching any of the games, no chance! Similar to me winning any prizes lol!

Funnily enough, as a child, I remember watching England win the World Cup in 1966, at a time when my father was trying to get me into the sport, and failing! Since then, nothing!

The only other soccer thing I can think of? Well, next seasons Premier League fixtures were announced today, but no, I havent yet checked when I have to try and avoid the crowds coming out from Huddersfield games! I will have to at some point, but that will be the only reason why!

Right, video. This song, in various versions has been around for over 20 years now, with a new version coming out each time England get to this, or the European Championships. No, I dont care if the hurt continues or not, I suspect it will, mind.

Working my way abroad

When I was younger, I always fancied taking the chance to work abroad, but it never happened, for whatever reason. In my time, around the turn of the century, I finally set to, in an attempt to achieve this aim, applying for jobs in Bermuda, and Russia. Both in the betting industry, but no joy on either count. Lets face it, the first was a tropical tax haven, and the second was one of those crazy openings that occurred after the Iron Curtain came down, and gambling took hold in Russia, especially Moscow.

Ironically, when I was finally offered the chance to work abroad, in 2003, in the US, I went and turned it down! No, the jobs werent glorious, but they were interesting, but at the time, having just lost my mother, and all that, I wanted to return home. Easy to say in hindsight that it was the wrong call, but anyway, at the time…ah well!

The other tempter I had at the time, was to go and work in Estonia, a country that I loved (and probably still would), but it would have required me to learn the language, and lets just say its one of the harder languages to learn, and leave it at that. So eventually, I let that dream die too.

Since then, apart from the crazy dream that someone might take on this poor waif while she was in the US, and employ her, its a dream that had died, until today. Oh, PS American folks, especially those in California (even more so LA area), if anyone does want to do a crazy thing, and employ this poor, battered waif, she’d love you forever! Fine, I know, but no harm in begging!

Yes, until today. Among other calls today (yes, I still sometimes get one), I received one from an agency, asking me if I would be interested in working in Greece. Yes, Greece, you know it, the one with the biggest financial hole in its economy in the first world, thats the one! Not that I’m sure if the situation is as bad out there now, as it was, as its disappeared out of the news at present. Wages arent great, but when you see the cost of living out there, it really doesnt matter! I’d actually seen this role before, last year, when things were bad, and thought ‘no thank you!’ and left it at that. But now, whats it like, especially as I’m reaching desperation point? To be fair, I suspect they are widening their job hunting options, as I suspect many still arent keen to go and work out there.

I did think I could talk myself out of it, as I had no great expectations of Greece being an LGBT friendly country, but it seems I’m wrong. Its not utopia (its a country dominated by Orthodox religion, for pity’s sake!), but better reports than I expected.

So maybe I will get to work abroad, though being the cynic I am, when it comes to jobs, I wont hold my breath just yet!

The video. Well, you could say I’ve been working my way around to that!

Dealing with a slippery character

In my life, I have been fortunate enough to have visited Eastern Europe, both before, and after the fall of the Iron Curtain, though curiously, there’s only one that I visited both sides of that event, Hungary. Believe me when I say, even though my first visit after the fall of the wall was no more than a few months after the big event, the changes were noticeable, even then.

I’m not certain if saying that people were more relaxed then, though attitudes seemed to change pretty quickly, it has to be said. That trip, was actually a holiday, with my ‘other half’, and one night we stopped for a drink in the bar, at the hotel we were staying at for a few days. In said bar, was a lady, dressed in a cleavage revealing top, and leather skirt, looking around at the men, in the bar, and surrounding area.

I understood more than a few words of Hungarian back then, and I heard someone disdainfully say in Hungarian that she was a ‘lady of the night’. No, not a vampire lol, a prostitute! And this was brazenly in the bar of a good quality hotel in Budapest! To say she wouldnt have been there a year earlier is putting it mildly, even though Hungary was a lot more laid back than the Soviet Union (or most communist countries) it has to be said!

In a sense, I regret never going back to the Eastern part of Germany, but in many ways, the change would have been so dramatic, it might have been for the best. Prague, would be nice to go back to sometime though, but no idea if, or when.

Of course, the countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania didnt even strictly exist before 1991! I still hope one day to return to Estonia (my favourite of them) but I have no idea when! Maybe when the body is no longer up to transatlantic flight hopping, and I need to go somewhere nearer. Ironically, due to the arrival on the scene of budget airlines, I suspect Tallinn has changed dramatically in the last 15 years or so, but anyway…

No, I’ve never been to the Ukraine, before, or after the wall came down, so I have no idea what Kiev (Kyiv) is like. But in Vilnius, I saw signs of what life must have been like under Soviet rule, and they werent nice ones. So yes, its sad for me to see current events in the Ukraine, given what happened in the past. No, I dont think Russia will take over the whole of Eastern Europe again, but events in the area concern me all the same.

Snag is, Putin isnt the type to step down from a challenge re events there, and Obama seems ready to stand firm over things too. I just hope this doesnt lead to bloodshed, war, and even worse, thats all I say. So for now, I hope events play out well in the Ukraine, and things can be settled peacefully. Snag is, I’m not sure if they can, at the moment.

The video, rather apt I feel, from an artist no longer with us, whose music I love. Mind, if you want to see that light that ‘comes down from above’ as a mind control element, feel free to do so, the lyrics do seem to fit in!

Apologies re the non video, video, but its all I could find.
