Can Brain Stimulation improve memory?

Its funny, because as any number of my friends, and contacts already know, I was rather into the idea of having my brain electrically stimulated, even when it was working normally. Now that of course its not working properly, the idea of having it done to me, lets face it, is going to appeal even more.

So yes, when someone saw this recent news article

it wasnt the biggest surprise that they posted it somewhere where I would see it. Yes, they’re right of course, I’d love to be part of that experiment, even before my brain got messed up, and lets face it, what is there to lose by trying it out now, especially as it seems to have had some success? Alright, even more fun for me with a ‘bit’ more voltage, and a full bodysuit, in metallic silver, well… But yes, this, now, well, I’d love to think I’d make the ideal subject. Let me just point out this is done with a very weak voltage, not the dramatic jolt of ECT, so it should all be fine. And yes, the thought of having my brain connected up to numerous electrodes, at any voltage would appeal a lot.

But agreed, as someone wittily suggested, if it did go wrong (voltage, or otherwise), and turn me into a mindlessly obedient robot, I wouldnt mind in the slightest, would I?

But yes, its fair comment that if this ‘senior’ is ever going to be up to work again, her mind, and memory is definitely going to need sharpen up, so what could be better? Mind, given the state of my body as well, especially my back, the full robot makeover might be wise, for getting to and from work! Well, a flying saucer might be fun, but practically…

But yes, if anyone in Boston sees this blog, fancies trying a bit more experimentation, or trying a bit more voltage on a mature Brit, with brain issues, then why, yes, I’d love to! Even if they just want to give her a treat, then yes, I’d love to!

OK, video time. This piece of brainwashing is delightfully evil. Having said that, yes, I’d love it done to me! Who knows, they might make me think I’m Clara Johnson, former chorus line dancer? Equally, maybe they would really turn me into Robotunit 8, lol?

Free will, or free from pain

Oh fine, I posted about this story last Sunday, but at the time I hadnt read the last few chapters, and seen the interesting way that the story culminated. Oh, the link for those unable to scroll back one week…

Given it can hardly be too much of a spoiler, for those who bothered to read it, Lilly might have got turned into a mindlessly obedient robot (which lets face it, I’d love, but most wouldnt), but events led to Trish getting a new robot body, but getting a pretty decent degree of sentience, even if I’m suspect that if someone wanted to control her mind, they probably could.

The hypothetical question for people like me (or even more disabled than me), is, given the choice, which would you prefer to choose? Pain free life, but in a ‘robot’ body, technically with sentience, though open to being controlled, or to have a free mind, and have to live with the pain?

I know, I’m not the best person to make a call on this, because lets face it, to get rid of all my pain, I’d take the Lilly option, lets face it, but hey, the Trish option would be absolute heaven! But would others do the same, or would they prefer their pain, but keep their free will, and a human body, hmm?

I know that for most of my readers, you have to try and imagine how painful, or limiting life is for some, but even then, if something happened to you, what level of disability would it take for you to take the Trish option (I’m assuming no one other than me would take the Lilly option), rather than carry on in pain, or is it just a total no go?

Comments here, on Facebook, Twitter, or to if you want to keep it private, or cant find the middle two, would be lovely, just saying. Not going to hold my breath for replies, but someone new might surprise me!

Video time. What you will need to do, in this theoretical exercise.

Sitting in my dream office?

Well, its back to the office tomorrow, though sadly, it wont be anything like this place!

Just to say, if you’re limited for reading time, Chapter 6 would appeal a lot to be done to me! I know, only person who would enjoy that, but besides all that…

In truth, I suspect that a few decades into the future, I suspect this method may well be used in some offices, especially for the more mind numbing duties, and yes, call centre work would definitely qualify for that! Oh please, computer controlled drone for work, then go home at night with free will, mmm? Oh, and those suits they get to wear sound quite something too! Oh fine, that free will thing at night, maybe we could come to an arrangement on that?

Sadly, no, for those of us with just about a maximum of 5 and a half years to go to retirement, its not going to happen in that period of time, I only wish it would!

Oh, and in the previously mentioned chapter 6, lets just say the lucky lady gets an upgrade on just being a  mindless drone for work, and fine, I’d be the only person jealous of her for that!

Yes, lets face it, I couldnt get my CV in quickly enough for a job, if that was for real! Let me just add, I’m yet to read this weeks update, so please, no one post on here how it ends, OK? But equally, if anyone wants to offer me a job, just like that, please post quickly! 😉

Right, video time. No, you’re not likely to find an office on a backyard fence, but we need some 30’s musicals love around here. Dick Powell, and Ruby Keeler might be the stars, but yes, one of those in the cat costumes, yes, its Clara! You do get a better view of her very briefly late in the video, just saying…

Human, or machine?

I gather that at work, what must be the mind numbing task of recording each benefit, and the amount, for each customer, up to now, has had to be typed in by someone individually. It seems now that humans are going to be rescued from this boring task, by something called ‘Robot Automated Processing’ (or something similar), which will do all this very repetitive stuff, and not get bored in the process.

Sadly for me, though probably not for anyone else, this doesnt involve turning humans into robots, or anything interesting like that, it just simply enables people to be freed up to do something more worthwhile, and hopefully more interesting.

As you can imagine, discussion of this process, and my warped science fiction author mind, came up with a much more interesting concept for this.

Of course, if it was genuinely practical, and possible to turn humans into robots (oh, I wish), then I suspect some employers might be more interested in developing things in that direction, but anyway… For now, morals, and technology say no!

But, I wonder, if this sort of thing could be done, would I be the only person who would enjoy being transformed in this way, or are there others? Would others volunteer, or apart from me, would all have to be dragged to the robot transformation pods? Might be a few others, I guess?

No, this wont be affecting my line of work just yet, and probably by the time its capable of that level of AI, I will be retired, given I have at most, about 5 and a half years to go before then! Even that assumes my back holds out that long, or an opportunity arises to do something else, well…? Mind, I do wonder if I would feel the same way if the opportunity arose, or I’m only so keen on it because its not currently practical, who knows? I’m pretty sure that yes, I would be, but unless it happens…?

OK, video time. No, I know this sounds like OMD, but it isnt. Yes, its the lead singer, and they did record this, many years later, but this is the original Elektric Music version of the song. Kraftwerk meets OMD, quite literally!

Space Age Dream Look

You know these strange things you find on Social Media? And no, I dont mean supposedly genuine, respectful statements by Trump, as they would definitely be fake news! 😛

No, what I mean here are when you’re a member of these slightly crazy Sci Fi groups on Facebook, and someone posts an old picture that brings back memories, and makes you wish you could have that look, especially as she was a ‘machine’. Yes, in this case, Galaxina. Like so…

The film was generally pretty forgettable in truth, other than the fact that said lady, Dorothy Stratten, was murdered shortly afterwards by her estranged husband before he killed himself. But yes, if you’re asking me, if I was turned into a robot, that had to look human (discounting therefore, the Metropolis look), this would probably be at the top of my list! Even more so, given the space connection.

One wonderful friend has told me that yes, its possible, though I’m not sure how you get a plainish 60 year old to look like a 20 year old stunner, I have no idea? I do assume the turning me into a machine/robot might be a bit more complex, lol? To be honest, I wish I had the hair to have a fringe like that, as a start! Its not quite 20’s, but all the same…

Oh, and on the ‘being turned into a robot’ front, if anyone wants to pay my airfare to Denver, and back (maybe?), I might find out. Yes, unlike Galaxina, I might pass on this ‘be more human’ stuff, lol, and prefer the Stepford wife style! Mind, that would take some programming, lol…

OK, video time. A Flock of Seagulls have just got back together to record a new album, and there is actually a new video of this song doing the rounds. Yes, 3 of them have got a lot less hair than they have in this video now! If you put the song title on You Tube, not hard to find!

Ain’t missing you

To be fair, I’ve never been a big drinker of alcohol at any point in my life, though I certainly have enjoyed the odd strong drink from time to time, mainly when eating out, or flying somewhere. Generally a glass of wine, or a vodka and coke, but that really is about it for me.

So fine, when I was told last July, that because of the strong(ish) pain killers they were putting me on, I had to stop drinking alcohol, it wasnt the end of the world for me. Yes, there have been a few air flights where I’ve missed that drink, or when celebrating my 60th (twice this year), that it might have been nice to celebrate a bit more, but such is life. Christmas, I had non alcoholic wine, and last September, I stayed off the pills for 3 days (period to clear system), so I could drink at my friends wedding, but that really has been it! And yes, then, I was taking them again as soon as I got back to the hotel. I wasnt in real pain (non stressful activity, and hot weather for a week helped), but I quickly got back to the pill plan, and was grateful for them!

What struck me this week though, was when I took in a couple of bottles of alcoholic wine type drinks for a tombola as prizes at work, was that I didnt miss not being able to drink them. There may be a time when I dont need the pills again, and can have the odd drink again, but in truth, I’m not sure that will happen given the state of my back, but we will have to wait and see.

And yes, flying to and from Seattle last month, I did think it would have been nice to have had wine with the meal, but did I really miss it, probably not? Fine, I know people on the same pills, and same strength pills as me, who do drink, and have no issues with it. But me, I’m a good, obedient robot (I wish) type, who does as I’m told, so…

Now, if only I could find those robotization pills to take, lol…? 😉

Right, video time. A Brit, who found fame in the US is tonights pick. Sorry, booze, but…

Born too late, or is it too early?

One of the subject matters on one of the forums I visit this morning, was the matter of how AI is developing, and how it will lead in the next 50 years or so, to cybernetic/robot bodies for us to upgrade into, if we so wish, and lets face it, I would be one of those who would jump at the chance. And yes, thats what someone pointed out, saying that I had to be ready for that day to come around, and get downloaded into a lovely robot body

However, as I gently pointed out to him, unless it actually happens within, realistically, the next 10 years, its all going to be too late for me. I know, I might last a bit longer than that, though given all my physical issues now, I’m not sure I really want to, in this body at least! As for the best part of 50 years time, then yes, I’ll be long forgotten for sure, given I have no family to worry about me, once I go!

But yes, 20, or 30 years younger, and who knows, I might have got my wish? Of course, as this would have meant I didnt grow up with the likes of the early Star Trek, Dr Who, and the Carry On films (with their brainwashing, and wax work creation stuff), I might have felt differently about it all. Equally, Metropolis might have hooked me on the idea anyway, lol!

So fine, practically, if I have one last acting role in me, and I cant see any rush to provide it, then yes, I’d love to play a robot, or an alien, complete with really good outfit. Or fine, any decent outfit, but you get my drift! 😉 Equally, a chance to play a flapper, again, wouldnt say no!

Or was I just born too late? Yes, I know, I’d have missed out on all these modern delights of life, but fine, I would have loved to have been a flapper in the 1920’s. Or equally, around the movie scene in the 1930’s in some role, a lot like Clara Johnson, either in acting extra roles, or with luck (and some unknown dancing skills), a chorus line dancer, or maybe more?

Equally, there are some that would say I would have enjoyed life as a 50’s housewife, which lets face it, is where the whole Stepford Wife image was created from, they’d be right! Even better as a real Stepford Wife, lol!

Which of course brings us back to the point mentioned at the start of this blog, the dutiful robot wives of the future. Sadly, by that point, some 50 years on, I’ll be gone, in this life at least. But maybe, next time around…?

Right, tonight’s video. This is a very old song (originally released the year I was born, 1958), and sadly, no film of the Pony Tails performing it on You Tube could be found. But I found this instead. I know nothing of the group, but its live, its of decent quality, so…
