Another Pine Bush Saturday

OK, lets go crazy and give Stacie the daily double tonight, seeing she tipped me off about this, for very obvious reasons tonight, when I went to tell her about the other blog being posted!

https://pinebushufofair.com/

I would say lets get one of those money raising things done to get me there in May this year (ideally flight by UFO, though Jet Plane more practical), but in truth, its a bit of a no go. Mainly its only 6 weeks away, and that doesnt give much time, especially given (standard) air ticket would need to be purchased in advance. Secondly, its about 50 miles from where Stacie lives, and I have no idea of her availability, hotel availability, or what public transport is like in the area.

Of course, this year there is also the ‘little’ matter of my current health situation, not good. So even allowing for travel insurance (hmm, as already hold annual policy), there is the fact that its probably not wise to try and cross the Atlantic at the moment, when I regard getting into Huddersfield as a challenge! But for 2020? As its been going since 2011, there is a good chance it will happen… Well? I would definitely need to also find a really good alien suit for that too!

Maybe a friendly alien has flying saucer, space station base, and bodysuit (optional as to whether removable again) that can help me out for this year, or next? Or maybe I ask my friend Matt, at Warner Brothers, if he has a suitable alien bodysuit I could loan, somewhere around the Burbank site…?

The funniest irony? I would actually have been on holiday that day, first day of my booked May holiday! Whereas now, I’m off until at least mid June, probably a whole lot longer!

But yes, the 2020 Pine Bush UFO Fair, me there as an alien, health permitting, why, I’d love to! So yes, as I say, Stacie got the daily double today!

The video.n Well, close to the title. Most people see this as a Monkees song, and why not? Well, Carole King actually helped to write it, so…

But for those who prefer the ‘more famous’ version

The easy way to create a pop group?

OK, fine, let me say before any greedy musical producers get any ideas, this concept (as far as I know) is purely fictional, but, given how often pop groups have been created, both now, and in the past, well…? Yes, story blog time again.

https://mcstories.com/WeaverTunesGirlGroup/index.html

Of course, the irony here, through bias, is that the video isnt a girl group, but anyway…

Beyond briefly, in a tribute group, as a teen, I’ve never been in any pop groups in my life. That was a relatively brief, fun experience, but not one I’m ever going to replicate now, lets face it. No, I wouldnt have a clue where any other member of that group was now for the so called revival tour, after nearly 45 years! Of course, using the method in the story, I guess its not beyond the realms of possibility that I could be transformed into a stunning, sexy young woman, and be lead singer of a group, but I wouldnt put any money on it, lol! For me, it was just a brief fun thing, between acting stuff, and never anything more, but so many have made it, or not made it over the years, I guess?

Question I ask is, are manufactured groups really any worse than the standard way of forming a pop group anyway? Many are just groups of friends who thought they could work together (some did, some didnt), and just saw where it took them. For most, at best, a brief moment of fame, for most, not even that. Obviously some made it big (apt one would be Spice Girls), all the same.

Me, I’m glad I performed, even at a lower level in life, but I cant say the whole pop music thing offers much attraction to me. Of course, if like this, or otherwise, the chance arose, I might think differently. More likely I suspect musicals would have appealed to me, but anyway.

But yes, all the same, if someone wants to use Weaver Tunes, and play me ‘The Most Beautiful Girl In The World’, I wouldnt complain! Wont hold my breath, mind.

Right, video time. I know, a manufactured boy group, so its partly there at least. But I love this song, cant think of any other way I’d fit in here, so…

Taking my morning train

A fortnight today, the biggest shake up to rail timetables in the UK in a very long time is happening. I wont actually be here to see it, the only ‘trains’ I’ll be worrying about on that date will be the Seattle Light Rail, to get me to the baseball!

In a sense, I’m told, it offers a massive improvement in rail services, which would be nice, but in truth, given Trans Pennine Express’s inability to run a decent service now, how they are going to run an improved one, no idea!

In honesty, I hardly use the trains nowadays, generally just once a week, on a Saturday morning, as there are bigger gaps in the bus schedule early on a Saturday morning, compared to the weekdays, or indeed, later in the day on a Saturday. So the 7.50 train to Bradford served me quite nicely! Sadly, its only going to do it one more time! As from 26th May, or if you like 2nd June as will concern me, that train will leave at 8.09, no use whatsoever! There is a bus at 8.00 which will beat that easily, but make it a very tight squeeze to get to work for 9.00. Previous bus? 7.30, which would have me in work by 8.30, but would mean leaving here 20 minutes earlier, and its an early enough start as it is! So no, doesnt work as an improvement for me.

And funnily enough… I actually now have a return visit planned to Blackpool in June, and formerly, there was a train from Bradford (or Halifax) that went all the way to Blackpool North, without changing. No, I’m not yet that physically limited, but someone who will be ‘chaperoning’ me is, so the change at Preston will be a nuisance for him. No, he’s not really chaperoning me, but a train trip, a couple of nights away, and a day riding the trams, he’s not going to turn that down. Irony, the Sunday service coming back, still a direct train, something at least!

So yes, in theory, all these train travel benefits, and they do nothing but hamper my plans! Ah well…

Right, video time. A spot of live Monkees. Well, 3 of them at least, as its a 1996 performance.

If I believed it was the 1920’s?

Alright, I suspect there might be a few readers here who miss the more entertaining (aka weird) postings I used to make here, and dream of the old days. Certainly judging by the stats, they still seem pretty popular, so…?

Thinking forward to Blackpool next month, and the showing of Some Like It Hot, and those of us doing the 1920’s thing, as volunteers, I was just wondering what it would be like if some (or all) of the volunteers actually thought they had been whisked to modern day Blackpool, from those glorious days!

No, I’m not suggesting actual mind control devices as such, though I might not say no, but just say, for example, a hypnotist made those of us happy for it to be done to us (which obviously includes me!) think we were actually from the 1920’s? Might make any flappers even more fun to be around! No, I think my days of being a cute young flapper (without a rejuvenation machine) would be beyond me, but for some…? Not that I would say no to a full frisky young flapper makeover, mind!

I just think it might make it even more fun for the modern day public, if those ’20’s folk’ actually thought they were from the 1920’s! I know, probably the only one who would think this was fun, but you never know? Anyway, if by sheer luck, any hypnotist from Blackpool area, or someone that knows such a person reads this, then yes, I’d love it done, even if at 60, I wont be young, and not too cute! Mind, I suppose the issue of changing everyone (or just me) back again afterwards might make it all a bit complex? Ah well…?

Mind, if it didnt happen that I changed back, only after I slept, it wouldnt be the first time I’ve ‘travelled’ as a 20’s flapper! Mind, she was prepared for modern life, but I guess we would have to be this time, as allegedly at least, no one from the 20’s would know about things like cell phones lol!…angelic look…

PS If anyone in the area reading this, wants details of the evening, either comment to me, or go on Winter Gardens website, and check out Some Like It Hot night.

Video time. Old song, modern version, quite apt under the circumstances, just maybe?

I should have just been hanging round

Fine, today I proved to myself why I dont bet, and its because I’m a lousy gambler. More on that shortly.

Yesterday, the first target was to turn my little phone into an active one, by getting its umpteenth new Sim card over the years. Basically, they last 90 days, and apart from 2 occasions, everytime I travel to the US, I need a new one. And so, choices, choices…

Because I wanted to go back to Pasadena at some point on the holiday, and there was an AT&T store near the metro station there, I went over there to do it. I could have done it locally, but it would have needed a fair walk, so fine, excuse made. Pasadena is a lovely place to visit, except for this weekend, when I gather it will be chaos there, with pop concerts, museum tours, and roadworks, all adding to the racing at Santa Anita, so yes, glad its done.

After finishing there, I did the opposite to the Pet Shop Boys, and went East. The line has been extended eastwards to Azusa, so I took a chance to travel on it. A bite of lunch, then back to Pasadena for the bus journey home. Apart from 4 people each travelling just one stop (one may have had health issues, the other 3 definitely didnt), it was a fairly dull affair.

This morning is when I gambled, and got it wrong. I walked down to the Metro station to get a train downtown, to find that an ‘every 10-12 minute service’ wouldnt be along for 21 minutes! So fine, I thought, I’ll walk down, get the bus to Santa Monica, and get the train back. Yes, another new line I wanted to go on. Oh fine, I picked the crazy bus, clearly! So yes, with all the delays with those folk, I could have waited over 20 minutes for the train downtown, gone back out to Santa Monica, and still have been quicker!

I did my stroll around town, stopping off for a coffee, before heading to the biggest Santa Monica landmark, the pier! Which supposedly is the end of Route 66, halfway down its length, according to the sign. I strolled to the bottom, said my close up farewell to the Pacific, in case I dont go down there at Pacific Palisades, though I will see it as I fly out, but thats not the same thing. Lunch on the pier, then finally I got that train I could not miss, back to LA.

In truth the most memorable bit of the journey was 2 teenagers being ‘tough’ until some guy actually stood up to them, and then they quietened down! They had reminded me why I’m not a fan of modern music at least!

Tomorrow evening, is dress up time, as I’m off to the movies at the Egyptian Theater. I know, I dont have to, especially nowadays, but it will be fun to put a dress on, so I will. Sunday afternoon, a Women in Media event, so a chance to try and sell my talents, maybe? Other than that, I’ll see what the morning brings!

I’ve given a couple of clues to the video, so hopefully you know what it is, without looking!

Derek Jeter, thanks for everything. Even if you are a New York Yankee

Yes, we’ve come to that time of year when summer sports come to an end. The last rites of the cricket season are being played out over here, and in the US, the last week of the regular baseball season is doing the same thing. And yes, this blog is more related to the latter, shall we say.

Tonight, for the last time in Yankees Stadium, Derek Jeter will play for the New York Yankees at home. Seriously, in these days of free agency, and transfers, he has played for the Yankees, his only team, since 1995, quite a record. Ironically, given the rivalry between the 2 teams, its ironic that his career will end with 3 games at Fenway Park, against the Boston Red Sox. Even more remarkably, given the history of the 2 teams, they are likely to be 3 meaningless games, unless the Yankees win both their last 2 games at home, and Kansas lose both of theirs!

Yes, to a degree myself (I follow Boston), and my friend Kate (passionate fan) hate the Yankees for all the obvious reasons. But one person, the thoroughly likeable Derek Jeter almost transcends all this.

My biggest Jeter memory, would be his 3,000th hit for the Yankees. I knew he’d been creeping up to the landmark, and by sheer luck, the magical moment occurred on a game being carried by ESPN over here. Within a few minutes of getting home from work, and switching on the TV, Jeter came to bat, and proceeded to hit the ball out of the park, and make a mark on history. Thats right, not just a hit, but a home run!

I’ve never seen him play live, only on TV, so I was denied that pleasure. But all in all, I’m delighted to have seen him play many times, and even more delighted when the Yankees lost, sorry, Derek. To say he’s a Hall of Fame certainty, is to put it mildly, the only talk seems to be whether he will get the highest percentage of votes ever, quite likely, I suspect. Lets just say that next season, it will be funny watching the Yankees play, and not seeing Jeter there, ever again.

Thanks for many memories, all the same

The video, a very late Monkees number
