Retirement home, on the beach?

OK, fine, they think its all over, well it pretty much is now, lol. No, I’m not talking about the current government, though that might yet prove to be apt. But being strictly politically neutral on UK matters…well…? No, seriously, I mean my little break in the sun.

Of course, the sixty four million dollar question is, has the break in the sun done my back any good? Well, I’ve been taking less pills than usual, so I guess thats a good sign, but how long the effects will really last when I get back to the UK, who knows? I certainly havent missed not hearing all about the chaos at home over Brexit, and other stuff, for sure.

Yesterday, I headed to Vila Real De Santo Antonio as planned, and had a look around. In a sense, its more my sort of town than Faro would be, more peaceful, laid back, and dare I say it, old fashioned? Sadly I didnt get to Spain, as I reached the ferry terminal after town, and lunch, to see it pulling out for Ayamonte, across the river, in a different country, and given the next one wasnt for another hour in the off season, I didnt wait. That would have put me on the 2.30 ferry across, so earliest back at 4.00, and then needing to get back to Monte Gordo, all would have got a bit late for me. Maybe another time, maybe not, who knows?

Today, as I have done most days (gentle exercise, which is good) I took my stroll down along the front, and down part of the boardwalk, over the beach. I did some shopping, a little bit more than I’d planned, but nothing too dramatic. Oh, I got one of those coats, seems they had a zip up version as well for same price, so deal done! So I guess at some point soon I’ll need to go into work looking like a 30’s film star, lol. No, its silly really, I dont need a winter coat, but… Yes, I found the PIN for my credit card, but then found they only took cash, no cards, aargh!

I must admit, if, as I hope, I can retire somewhere with all year round warmth, then Monte Gordo has done a pretty good publicity job this week. I know its off season, but its quieter than the more popular end of the Algarve, its pleasantly warm, even in mid November (70 today), and cost of living is definitely lower than the UK too. But whether I will be in a position to make it happen, who knows? Will it even be possible once we’ve left the EU to move out here easily? Rolls eyes… Who me, a remain vote, well, you might think that, but I couldnt possibly say! 😛

Last amusing note, before I close for this holiday. There is a spa at the hotel I’m staying at. I did notice on their website that the spa does those body wrap things, and I’ve always fancied that. Go into my cocoon as the ugly caterpillar, come out the beautiful butterfly, yeah, I wish! So today, with budget sorted, I went to see how much it was. Yes, as I expected, way above what I had left, 80 Euros, for admittedly 80 minutes of pure pampering heaven. So, a fair price, but… To be honest, it was pretty much all above my budget, but I guess a 4 star hotel with spa (I’d say closer to 3, but anyway…), thats probably going to be the case. The thing was, they had a special offer for a hot stone massage, at 49 Euros. for 50 minutes of pampering, which I could just about scrape together. But anyway, being practical, I checked on Google, and it said not advised for people with Osteoporosis issues, so I ended up passing. Probably would have been fine, but better safe than sorry with boring old me!

It was funny tonight at dinner, I got asked why I was drinking Coke, when everybody else was drinking wine, so I explained about the painkillers, and all that. Again I wonder if thats just me being extra cautious, as I know people taking those pills, and drinking booze, and being fine, but…I am being boring, lol!

Tonights video is a song that might have passed most people by, especially as its now 33 years old! The late, great, Kirsty MacColl for your delight

My favorite golf venue of the year

You might ask how this is my favorite golf course, when I’ve never even been there, let alone ever attempted to play there? Fine, more shortly. In fact, in my life, I’ve only ever visited 2 famous golf courses, and played at both, though not on the famous courses. Yes, putting greens only, lol. Having said that, the 18 hole putting green course at St Andrews is definitely not your average dull course. Carnoustie is a more normal version, but playing on it, literally as people are walking down the 18th fairway, just a fence away from you, still quite special.

But no, the closest I’ve been to this course is on a number 2 bus, heading to, and from Pacific Palisades. Yes, the US tour is playing at Riviera Country Club this week. And yes, in truth, its not the golf course shots I love, its the location views, which the TV companies involved, deign to give us.

Its funny, if things had gone as planned that first time, I may never have visited, and fallen in love with Pacific Palisades. I was heading for Beverly Hills, assuming the bus heading in that direction went there, but it didnt. By the time, I realized I’d got it wrong, that we were well past that location, I decided to stay on the bus, and take my chance, until we arrived somewhere where I could get lunch, maybe a look around, and then, with my tail between my legs (proverbially), turn around, and head back to Hollywood. Yes, I ended up in Pacific Palisades, and fell in love with the place. I dont think it was just the reasonably priced massage parlor, that eased a few aching limbs that clinched it, though that may have helped. It was the laid back feel of the place, the wonderful views of the sea, down the canyon, and everything else that cracked it, I’m sure. Fine, a wonderful ice cream parlor might have helped too!

Since then, I’ve been back there on each of my trips, and if I get to LA again, its a certainty that PP will be visited on that trip too. Though fine, walking down, and definitely up the canyon might be less practical now, with my back!

Oh, and one other thing of golf at Riviera, long range shots of Santa Monica Pier! Not that I’ve ever ridden any ride there, but got plenty of other good memories of that pier! So fine, if they want to show a bit less of the golf this weekend, and a bit more of the locale, I for one, would appreciate it!

Right, video time. Let me say this was one of those You Tube searches, not a song thats my thing in the slightest. But given the video has lots of shots of PP, and Santa Monica, I’ll live with it!

Booking in for a brainwashing session

No, not really, wouldnt it be fun if I was! Nothing so exciting I’m afraid, just that as long as its possible to get across to Manchester tomorrow (could be icy), I’m going to treat myself to a session in the Aqua Massage machine again, though of course this will be purely for beneficial purposes, and absolutely nothing to do with the fact that it makes you feel like you’re getting into a brainwashing/robotisation machine, even more so when they put the headphones over your ears, that soft music is playing, you fall asleep and…obey all commands that your ‘Masters’ give you. Alright, maybe not the last thing, but hey, I wouldnt mind if it did!

But agreed, when the inner lining presses tightly against your body, and those powerful jets (supposedly water) blast against the back of your head, and your neck, well… 😉 Lets face it, you arent going to hear the subliminal messages telling you that you’re now an obedient robot anyway, thats all part of the plan!

Oh, alright, in reality, that doesnt happen, well not unless they had me completely fooled the first time, that is! What it did do though, is make my back, and knees feel amazingly good, and I dont think that was done by mind control, but dont quote me on that. Alright, there was no mind control involved, but hey, a girl can dream… 😉 What I’m trying to decide is whether a double length session would provide double the benefits or not? And whether that would give them enough time to actually brainwash me? Oh alright, maybe not, but… Because given how often I can actually get over to Manchester, double length benefits would be handy. Besides which, I get twice as long to fantasise that I’m being brainwashed and robotised too, well assuming I dont just fall asleep of course, you get so relaxed!

So if anyone can tell me that 20 minutes would give better long term benefits than 10, let me know by the morning!

Oh, the video, a proper brainwashing session. Sadly this clip doesnt actually include the good bit, assuming it even happened? I’m told the film wasnt all that good, so…no, I havent seen it lol.

Oh, PS, if anyone in the Manchester/West Yorkshire area actually wants to brainwash/robotise me (real, hypno, or good RP), I’m available all week. 😉

A New Form Of Massage

As a number of my long term readers know, I suffer somewhat with painful joints, mainly the knees, and have a back that can play up when its in the mood to do so as well. Also, given that I’m slightly past 50 by now, my body is beginning to age anyway, not for the better, either. Yes, another advantage of being turned into a robot, a nice new, fresh body, and no concern about aching joints, or much else, I guess? 😉

So yes, regular massage sessions are part of my regime, and yes guys, I mean a proper massage lol! 😛 Though there are times, rather like now, if I’m being honest, when some joints (right knee at present) seem determined to annoy me considerably, even though my next session isnt for another week or so. Oh, and if you’re wondering, I’ve had bad knees now for over 40 years, the result of a collision with a show jumping fence as a child. Its always been a pain, but as you get older, it does get worse. Yes, I also know that short of getting a new robot body (ha ha), I’m probably going to have to get artificial knee joints before too much longer, but trying to delay it as long as I can, dont want them wearing out before I do too!

Now to the more interesting bit. A few months ago, I did a quick day trip over to Manchester. In the Arndale Centre over there, I heard this loud whooshing noise, and when I turned the corner, I saw a pair of these machines, marked as Aqua Massagers. Hey, I love anything techy, so I took a closer look. Looked quite interesting, and not a silly price either, so in my way, I thought about it for 5 minutes or so, tempted to give it a go, but walked away. Why, I had a massage already booked for the next day with Linda, thats why! Didnt stop me nearly turning around and doing it anyway, but… I was trying to work out where you got changed lol, I assumed you got wet! Blonde moment, I know. Since then I’ve found out that you stay in your clothes, as its all lined, and all you get is the benefit of the water, and no soaking! Now I find out you get given a pair of headphones that help you to relax with soft music…alright, you can see the mind control writer stuff creeping in here, cant you lol?

I assume they cant brainwash you that much in 10 minutes, but who knows? 😉 Would I mind if they did, probably not! Lets just say that I’ll be back over in Manchester in just under 4 weeks, and I plan to give it a try then. Anyway, for those who havent seen one of these, here is a promo video from You Tube

If anyone has tried it, let me know what its like. And if someone says they need 20 minutes to brainwash you with the headphones, I’ll book a double session lol!
