To the Pacific, and back, via public transport

Oh fine, I know, a lot of catching up to be done, so lets get things nicely up to date here.

Sunday

The main event of note on Sunday was a trip along Sunset Boulevard, to a lovely bookshop serving the acting industry, for a series of short pieces written, and directed by women. No, before the men reading this start muttering about rabid feminists, a number of the actors reading were men! Though fine, one of the funniest was a spoof about make up just for lesbians, and if you werent one already, and you wore it, well, you might soon be one! Met up again with some delightful ladies I met just over 2 years ago, had a great time.

Monday

Due to some good news, I had to start changing plans on my days out, more on the news, probably in next blog. So I headed out to one of my favorite coastal places around here, Pacific Palisades. Its funny, I’d normally groan at the thought of nearly 90 minutes on a bus, without comfy seats, but for this route, especially the last part, I can make an exception. Had a nice stroll around, though I passed on walking down the canyon to the beach, because I knew I’d see the ocean again, plus you limit your bus options back, if you do that. But yes, I’m going to miss that place.

Tuesday

Known now as the day that if anything could go wrong, it would. A lovely man I know purchased me a nice seat for the Dodgers game that evening, snag was, I had to get the ticket printed off, and obviously my apartment doesnt have a printer, and I dont have a smart phone, so…I walked to a Fedex office in town, got on their internet, to grab the email, print off the ticket, and… Hotmail decided it was suspicious activity, and so wanted me to get a code sent to another email address. Fine, except that when I tried to get into that box, to get the code, it wouldnt let me in, and wanted to send a code to the other address it wouldnt let me into!
Fortunately, he’d sent a copy of it to my Facebook messenger page, assuming I could save it on my smart phone which I dont have, but I printed that off, and it got me into the game. Snag was, I didnt notice at the time, it didnt give all the details of my seat number! More on that later…

Finally, about an hour later than planned, I headed to Venice, the California one! You know, with the beach, and the muscles, and…a certain statue! Back in 1922, a shy(?) student named Myrna Williams posed for a statue that was to stand outside the high school. Oh, you might know her by her acting name, Myrna Loy! Unfortunately, with everything, I arrived in the school lunch hour, which made getting to her trickier that it might have been if the students had been in class. Anyway, having given my regards to her, I set off back to the bus stop, to get a bus to the beach, and waited…and waited…and waited. In the end, 2 buses more or less came along together!
After a stroll along the boardwalk, I set off to find the muscle, on the beach. Yes, it might be lively at weekends, but on a Tuesday afternoon, grand total of 3 guys doing their thing! Fine, it was something, but…I suspect a weekend visit is more, err, fruitful in that sense?

Given that I needed to get back at a reasonable hour to get to the Dodgers game, I set off to get home, which should have taken 90 minutes max! Actually took just over 2 hours. Not traffic mainly, just crazy passengers delaying things! Which meant I ended up leaving here late, hitting the crowds trying to get into the stadium, and then…

I normally sit up ‘in the Gods’ at baseball games. Yes, your view is limited, but the seats are cheap! And when you’re on a budget… Last night, I was down at field level, which is a long way down from the entry area at Dodgers stadium. No idea where I was going, took the wrong turn, got there eventually, though I missed the first half of the first innings, ah well…Yes, thats when I found out my ticket didnt actually give seat details. Anyway, at the second attempt, I found a seat no one else wanted, and watched most of the game.

Yes, one of those games that goes on forever, I left at the 11th innings mark, and headed for the buses back into town, to head home. Unfortunately, despite the bus being very full, the driver wasnt keen on leaving while the game was still going on. Eventually he did, before the Dodgers finally won, after 13 innings! Snag was, there were a lot of very drunk, very loud youngsters on the bus, screaming and shouting at regular intervals, but eventually we arrived at Union Station, and… There is meant to be a train at that time of night, every 20 minutes. 25 minutes after arriving on the platform, a train finally turned up! Given there were already people waiting, I would guess, at least 30 minutes, if not more, after the previous one.

I’ll save today, as this is far too long already! I need to thank Sarah for finding this apt video for me. Looks like Madonna was trying to portray a few golden age actresses, but warning, it is Madonna, and some of it might not be suitable for children, just saying…

If I get a job this week, should I go wild?

I know, stop laughing, but stranger things have happened in life, and besides, wouldnt it be more of a blow, having set myself up for a residence in Hollywood, if it wasnt to happen? Despite one or two agencies telling me that the jobs start a week today, and everything else, I havent heard from them today. And given that one has done nothing but mess me about up till now, I’ve no great expectations of them coming through at least. I have got an agency visit to register tomorrow (applied for today, need to keep up efforts till after Job Centre on Friday, at least), and the Council, group assessment one on Wednesday, so maybe it will finally happen, but anyway…This is about a couple of crazy options if I do get that job…I know, I’m laughing too!

First one is this weekend, an Adult exhibition being held over in Manchester. Here’s the link http://www.sexhibitionexpo.co.uk/

I know, I have no interest in sex, at my age I’m not going to become a burlesque artist, or adult dancer or anything, but it might be fun. Indeed, it almost certainly would be fun to do, for nothing else, looking at the latex clothing, and other fashion delights! Mind, if I got there, and someone wanted to make me think I was sexy, at my age, lol! But yes, practically, if I’m going to Hollywood to live for a while, I wont be doing this, silly to spend extra money. But if I’m not…I might think about it, then finally decide on Saturday morning that I’m not going!

Maybe I should, might spice my life up, but anyway…

Second one would be even more fun, the weekend after, but far more expensive, so unless I am working, definitely out! Put it this way, I dont think I’ll be trying fund raising again, even if there are some strange folk who might enjoy photos of me in latex clothing. At my age, seriously? Yes, the studio in Leeds where I’ve done my 2 shoots are having a latex clothing photo shoot, which would be fun to do. At least then I’d know what its like to wear, probably the only way I will! But remember, I’m 57, and the words ‘Mutton dressed as lamb’ do come to mind. I’d love to do it, it will be done in a highly professional way, but £300…no chance without a good paying job, ah well…

More realistically, unless things happen, Saturday, I’ll be sorting out the booking for Hollywood, flights and apartment, just a matter of deciding for how long. But you never know, I might be going to Sexhibition…stop laughing!

The video, no idea why this came to mind. It is the censored version, but even so…be warned! Not my music, but it could hardly be ignored

Who did the interview, and what sort of staff do they want?

One of the traits of modern interviews, is the competency test, where you have to describe how you cope with various situations, and I hate them. So, given my ‘fine record’ in them recently, I decided to try something different on Friday, knowing it was going to happen.

Basically, I let ‘Jean-Bot’ loose in my mind, and literally gave her full rein to play with my mind, and tweak things accordingly, so that I could do better at these things. She’s bubbly, full of confidence (well, she is Jean Harlow, so…), and well, I thought there was no harm in trying something new. I couldnt let her do the interview though, as she does talk with a fine Kansas accent, and that might have taken some explaining away, for someone born in the UK!

So I gave her 5 minutes, just before I went in, to do as she wished, with no restraint from me. Whatever, it worked, best interview I’ve done this time around, and all that. Full of confidence, full of answers, so…no, I havent heard yet, either way, but at least this time I know I havent messed up the interview, which is great.

The other thing that amused me, was something new for me at least, a personality profiling test. About 25 groups of 4 descriptive terms, you mark the one that matches you most, and the one that matches you least, and…! There were a few terms there that amused me greatly, those being controlled, obedient, and submissive. I’m pretty sure mindless was there too, but dont quote me on that. Seriously, what kind of training methods do they use? Yes, it amused my science fiction writing self no end.

I will see with great interest (assuming I get the job) just how they do their training, but lets face it, if they want to turn me into a controlled, mindless and obedient worker, do you think I’m going to object in the slightest? 😉 Hey, I might almost be disappointed now if it isnt something like that lol!

“Please sit in this chair, let us put this headband covered in electrodes over your temples, and begin your training…”

I’d be the only one saying “Yes please, get on with it!”

The other amusing job interview moment this week was the whole ‘dressing in style’ thing. I went to an interview for a receptionist/PA role, and one of the 2 girls in front of me (we were being interviewed in pairs) was dressed in leggings, and boots, for a job interview! Seriously, when you’re trying to impress your potential employer? Ah well…

The video, well it sums up who took the interview. Was it me, or was it Jean-Bot pretending that I was in control. Might also sum up what I will be, after that training, if those personality profiling options are anything to go by!

A girl has to express herself

Well, even if the subject matter bores you here, the video is definitely downright kink laden! So stay aboard…

In terms of my work life, in all honesty, I’m pretty settled at present. Partly because once you get past 50 (and definitely past 55), your chances of finding a new job tend to diminish quite rapidly. Doesnt mean that I still wouldnt love the chance to work (short term, or otherwise) in the US, but the chances of it happening now, are pretty slim. I know, its easy in hindsight, but if I’d taken that chance 11 years ago…

Mind, I would have missed out on knowing some lovely people so, swings and roundabouts, I guess?

But, promotion within your current firm, still not a good bet, but more possible I guess? Well, I’m putting it to the test, have applied for a different job at work, something new, a different challenge. Yes, I probably need it, the current role is beginning to drive me nuts, so… Hopefully it happens, but given my age, and a male oriented office, we will see?

If you want to wish me luck though, feel free to do so.

In terms of love life, I dont think anyone is crazy enough to take me on, but lets wait and see what Kansas City holds in store next week. That would be irony, wouldnt it, me finding love in Harlow’s birthplace! No, I dont expect it, but in theory, there’s a man, or a woman for me somewhere, so who knows? I would have thought L.A was a better bet, and still quite apt for Harlow, we shall see.

No seriously, no great expectations of either, but nothing would bring Kate, or James greater pleasure.

OH, and PS, this is the last blog prior to the break, in all likelihood, by Thursday my hair will be done, and I’ll look even more like Jean, with luck.

So, to the video. Madonna, and kinky. I know, go together, dont they? 😉 The thing with this one is that her eyebrows are much thinner, almost Harlowesque. Mind, from all I’ve read, Jean didnt go in for a boring sex life either!

Oh, and just to mention. Earlier today, the 2 blogs combined hit 25,000 viewings, not bad, eh?

Still blonde, but having crazy moments

Yes, for those who put their money on staying blonde, go collect your winnings. Mind, the price would have been so short, you wouldnt have got rich on it lol! But let me say here and now, next time around, its being changed. I would say dark, a la Brooksie, and indeed most other young flappers, but my hairdresser tossed another idea at me today, so…good job I’ve got a bit of thinking time! Go brown, maybe with red highlights, hmm…one thing is certain though, it wont be blonde! Yes, my hair naturally is fairly dark, not black, but heading that way. So, quite literally going back to my roots, in that case lol! Probably keep the bob the current length though, wouldnt want to be too boyish looking, despite the boobs!

Oh, the crazy moment? Well, as I mentioned a while back, I won a competition at Christmas, earning lots of free money, in terms of points in the company ‘My Choices’ scheme at least. Snag, most sites you pay by card, and they return the money to your bank account. Fine if you have credit, or debit cards, but me…! One blessing, Amazon, you can buy vouchers with the points directly, so £100 went that way. And up to today, I hadnt spent a penny! Today I made up for that! Several tops, a few dresses, and some nice chocolate later, most of that money is gone! 🙂 Mind, I can soon top it up with another £75, if I feel so inclined, but might rest on my laurels for a while. No, that was all sensible purchases, but…

I’ve managed to sell 4 links for the film, so I had a bit of money in my Paypal account, which was nice. So I duly made my donation to the Lance Mackey medical fund, and then checked out Ebay. What did I see, a long(ish) midi length dress, of the type termed leather look…in silver/grey…for £4.99! You’re right, I couldnt resist, though I’m not sure when I wear it, but I know it will be fun doing so…sometime!

But yes, me buying midi length leather look dresses, I must be crazy, so this video seems apt

Holiday, part 1

Yes, probably the posting you havent been waiting for, especially if you’ve been following events in the Garden, somewhere else, or played a part in it, yes James and Kate, I do mean you lol! But for those few other people, who want to know about the holiday, wonder no more. It is fairly brief on the whole, I will take mercy on you in that sense at least.

I will however split it into 2 postings, due to length

Saturday 15th

As mentioned before, there is one huge advantage (apart from them generally being a good airline, though more later) of flying to the US with Aer Lingus, doing pre clearance at Shannon Airport. Seriously, no queue at immigration, through in less than a minute, and he was a lovely guy too. Flight was smooth, arrived early, and case appeared in a reasonable period of time. Somehow I got past Kate in the lounge, suspect it was because I was foicussed on finding Carousel 3, but anyway, she spotted me the moment I’d retrieved it. Shuttle back to her car, and we head off on to the road. Soon work out we arent heading for Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine, when we head south. Otherwise, initially at least, not a clue. Soon on the road to Cape Cod, so worked that much out at least. End up at a hotel with its own private beach, a wonderful setting, but sadly for both of us, no internet in the bedrooms. Given both of us had people and things we had to keep in touch with, the theory of staying there 3 nights went out the window. Thankfully the wonderful Kate found us a sister hotel in Hyannis to stay at the next 2 nights, and believe me, that setting was very nice too.

Sunday 16th

7.30am, I stroll down to the beach in my sandals, admire the view, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. About 8.45, call Kate, (we had separate rooms, because I’m a morning person, she’s a late person, so, let us both go to bed, and get up when we wanted to) tell her I’ll be down on the beach when she’s ready. I was, relaxed on a beach chair, reading my book, wearing my sunglasses, shocking stuff lol. Head off to Hyannis, park car at our new hotel, and via breakfast, head off to Martha’s Vineyard by the high speed ferry. Super lunch, but yes, guilty, when we got back to where the ferry goes from, I ended up with a sparkly t-shirt, only shock to some being that it was blue, not pink lol! 😛 Back to Hyannis by traditional ferry, then book in for the night.

Monday 17th

I’d been told this day trip was something special, and she was right. Did start in a hilarious manner as I had a short sleeved top on, and Kate suggested I might want to reconsider, while not wanting to tell me why. I might be domme(ish) lol, but I’m not daft, I changed! Whale watching, and as it turned out, a bit of dolphin watching too, on the way back. Seriously, absolutely magnificent sight, so glad we did it. Seeing those creatures, so close, absolutely awesome.

Tuesday 18th

We started out relatively early, as this was the day we headed for Albany, and to meet up again with James. Another good reason for leaving early, the weather forecast suggested the 2nd half of the day would be wet, and they were right! We did manage to get into the Berkshires before the weather fell apart, but it was (very) wet all the way from there. So much so, we didnt bother to leave the hotel after arriving, just eating downstairs.

First half music, lets have something obvious. You can tell how old this is, by how young she looks!
