The most incredible present ever

Well, yes, today officially was the big day, I hit 57. Unless you have done so elsewhere, feel free to leave greetings. OK, lurkers, I know you wont, but no harm in asking.

But in all truth, because of the way things work out with life, it was actually Saturday that proved to be the magical day this weekend. It wasnt in my plans to have Saturday off, but it suited work, due to the Cheltenham Festival and all that, but it made for a nice change.

And due to Nicole being elsewhere this evening, we took that chance to have my birthday celebration meal a couple of days early. And I took the chance to wear a strapless, green dress, most suitable for this weekend, given the cricket yesterday (not too much about that please), and the fact that its St Patricks Day tomorrow. Yes, I know its a silly thing, but I do love wearing a strapless dress nowadays, even if I’m not giving a big show of cleavage in doing so.

So fine, just after 6.30, we get back home, and I have an email from a friend, asking me for some personal details, for ‘something’. Given I know him well, I passed them on, hey, it was only my name as on my passport, nothing more anyway. He had mentioned leaving messages on Facebook, and Yahoo messenger as well, so I went off to those, to let him know the deed was done. He was still on Yahoo, so we started chatting. All I was told at this point was that something would be waiting for me in LA.

No, not a mad scientist who was literally going to turn me into Jean Harlow lol! Though given its Hollywood, there may well be one!

So fine, after a little while, the news came out, and for those who havent read the follow up comment on the last blog, its basically this. I am going to that party in Hollywood, and I dont have to concern myself about the cost, as the ticket, and dinner have been paid for, and given to me as the most wonderful present by James (yes, he was the one I was talking to), and Kate (who I soon ended up talking to as well). Words cannot describe how lovely a gesture this is, and now all I’ve got to decide is which dress I’m wearing!

Today has been calmer, got some nice stuff designed to make me even more beautiful from the folk here this morning as well, though I’m not sure how much of a miracle me looking stunning would take! But anyway…should look better after tomorrow, as I have a massage, and facial booked for the afternoon.

Oh, the cricket. Ireland did well, won more games than England in fact, but didnt make the quarter finals. But even so, its been a great few weeks, watching them down under. Hopefully at some point this summer, I’ll get to see them in the flesh, though job finding, and schedules may play a part in seeing how much, and when.

The video, from a time when U2 took themselves less seriously. And it sums up perfectly the gift received, from two truly wonderful friends, on Saturday evening. Just under 5 weeks from now, ‘Jean’ will go to the ball!

Planes, and buses, and thinking I’m Jean!

So fine, lets start this off with the news that I will be getting to ride the bus, but only one in each direction, instead of two. Yes, the past life regression, and other matters will be happening, on Monday, all sorted and confirmed! So its fair to say, that regardless of whether I really was her in a past life or not, on Monday, at some point, I will be thinking I’m Jean lol. Of course, there is that one in a million chance that I really was, but…

Anyway, more on that nearer the time, and definitely after the event, either from me, or from Jean, depending on who I’m left thinking I am. Me, I’m sure, but…I suspect I will get to see life through her ‘eyes’ at least.

Before then, I get to have the long flight to Albany, via Philadelphia, with US Airways. Should be fine, but that 2 hours or so connection between planes, dealing with Immigration, Customs, and a walk back through security, before a bus ride to the other terminal, it will be tight, I suspect!

I’ve been to Albany twice before, in 1988, and then again, a couple of years ago. Neither time have I seen a lot of the city, something which I plan to put right this time around. No, I suspect I will not get experimented on at the Nanotechnology building, but if I do…Even with the side trip, and all, I hope to get to see a few of the landmarks there.

But principally, the big thing for me on this trip, is my first ever Thanksgiving dinner. My huge thanks go to James for letting me experience this, should be amazing. And no, I have no intention whatsoever to go shopping on Black Friday! Thankfully, given the current weather, I’m going nowhere near Buffalo!

Fine, to the video, and yes, its Jean. I was tempted to make it from Saratoga, given that town isnt a million miles from Albany. Sadly, she never managed to complete that film before her death. it was completed using doubles, and the like, by public demand. But as I used that elsewhere, lets have a snippet from Bombshell instead.

Even if I get to think I’m Jean, I’ll never be the bombshell she was, thats for sure!

Me, on a date?

No, seriously, I cant remember the last time I went out on what would strictly be defined as a date. In a literal sense, I was taken out to lunch, by James, in Boston in 2011, but that was a purely platonic affair, so wouldnt qualify as a true date. Beyond that, no idea, but its a long time ago!

I’ve been chatted up once, or twice, most memorably on my train journey from Huddersfield one lunchtime, when hey, the guy even gave me his phone number, but I never followed it up. So fine, not going out on dates could be looked on as my own fault, but…! I guess I find the idea quite sweet, and something that would be fun, if it happened, but I cant see it.

Yes, I know, famous last words, and all that. I’ll meet someone in Kansas City, have him think he’s in love with me, and it will all develop from there. Kate and James keep telling me that the right person is out there for me, I just find it hard to believe. But… I agree, there, or Hollywood would be an apt place for a Harlow lookalike to find love, wouldn’t it?

So, 7 weeks or so from now, I’ll be being wined and dined, wearing a 30’s style dress, by a man. No, I’m joking, I think? Personally, I think I’d feel guilty for deserting Kate, but equally I suspect that if I got invited out for dinner, she wouldnt let me say no!

Yes, fine, this is what bought this little blog along, this picturejean harlow coloured 4

Seriously, if it wasnt for the eyebrows (and the quality of the jewellery), it really could be me! As in
photoshoot 9

So, who knows? 😉

No, I’m not planning the hen party yet! 😛

The video, well, I was looking for Baby Jane, and then I found this!

No, I dont think it relates to Harlow, but…

A Thanksgiving offer

Yes, this blog will at least make someone blush, I suspect, but he’s made me a very generous offer, and I want the world to know it. So fine, as some of you will point out, Thanksgiving isnt this Thursday, its a week on Thursday, but unfortunately, the calendar at the Garden has got it wrong, but I only realised that after all this had started to play out.

Fine, I’ve been in the US a few times, including a few bank holidays, but one event I’ve never been to, is Thanksgiving. Yes, I know the whole historical thing of it, as I’m sure most of you do, so I wont fill you in with all the details. Suffice to say, its a very important occasion, and I’m sure its not just an excuse to cook turkey twice, in a period of a month, instead of the once that we Brits do. But, and this is the important but, I’ve always seen it as a family occasion, not one for visiting Brits to bust in on.

But at the same time, as an Ameriphile (or whatever term they use), its something I’d love to experience, if just once.

And now, one wonderful gentleman, and friend has offered me the chance to do so, and to counter my argument about it being a family thing, has told me I can unofficially be adopted for the period of events…at least. I have not checked into the official full adoption period, we can work on that later. Thank you so much, James.

Now, as things stand, I’m planning to visit Albany next September, as the second of my US holidays for next year, after the big Kansas excursion in May. Clearly, subject to work situations, and other things that may be happening in the Albany area, its not final yet, just pencilled in. But now, do I go to Albany in September as well, do I go in November instead, or do I just stay over for 2 months? No, the latter isnt going to happen, I dont think my job would approve of the latter move lol! And if I dont go in September, do I stay at home then, as I normally do in November, keeping the count at 2 trips, or do I fit in a third? I may not be made of money, but I’m sure I could pull it off one year, without doing much real damage to the bank balance. Hmm…? Choices, choices…

Anyway, plenty of time to work all this out.

So, a very special thank you, James, I have a strong feeling you need to get those ‘adoption’ papers sorted out lol. Something else to truly look forward to next year, and something very special, that is really appreciated

The video, as I say, strictly, its a week early, but given the blog…

Happy birthday!

Yes, unoriginal title on a day like today, and yes, its a dead giveaway as to what the video is at least, or should be.

The funny thing is, at the Garden at least, where most of the birthday activity is, in terms of posting, where relevant, all the postings seem to focus on the old robot me, and not on the new flapper version. Not that I mind, James posted a delicious poem, and I still love the robot related pictures, but at the same time, I would have loved at least one to have picked up on the new me when posting.

Oh, the day, quiet, just the way I wanted it to be. Have been out for a meal this evening, but thats as lively as it has got. My main present, the one to me, from me. The fact that 5 weeks from now, I will be in New York State, heading for Rochester, and my weeks holiday. What the weather holds, is anybody’s guess I gather up there, at that time of year. But heading to ‘Louise Brooks’ territory will be special for me, whatever the weather.

No, I dont imagine I will dress flapper style while there, not that it wouldnt be fun. But the flapper era was long over by the time she moved there anyway. Low heels, quite possibly, flapper dress, I suspect not lol. But more on all that nearer the time, when I have a better idea what the weather will be like.

The video, as I said, yes, its the obvious one

Holiday, Part 2

And here for your edification is the rest of the week

Wednesday 19th

Much better weather greets us, I’m delighted to say. We meet up with James, and head out of Albany. The only comment I get as we head north on I-90 is that, no, we arent going to Rochester lol, anyone would think it was a well known fact I was a Louise Brooks fan, or something! Yes, for those who dont know, thats where she is buried. I will get there, but next September, under my own steam. In fact, as a signpost soon gives away the game, we are heading somewhere apt for 2 baseball fans, Cooperstown, and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Seriously, its quite some place, and if you have any interest in baseball, try and get there some time. I managed, with a little help from James in distracting Kate, to get her a little gift. Back to Albany, say our goodbyes to James, and settle down for rest of day.

Thursday 20th

The day we head back to New England, and again, I know where we are heading, Foxboro. Yes, where some NFL team called the Patriots play lol. Most of the day was a straightforward long dostance drive, so I wont say too much about that. In the evening, we head out to Patriot Place for a meal, and so Kate can impress me with the stadium. It works, the stadium is impressive, it has to be said. Then the fun starts! We go to a Toby Keith restaurant (no, name didnt mean a lot to me, but to US folks…I gather it does), and order our food. As a good Kansas loving girl, seeing an item on the menu that seems apt to eat, I order it, and enjoyed it. Kate ordered something else, but guess what, they bring 2 of what I ordered! Hilarity ensues, but credit due, before long, her correct meal arrives, though I had already started, as sense, and Kate told me to. But no, thats not the end of the fun. Given its now dark, Kate sets the sat-nav to get us back to the hotel, even though we have a pretty fair idea of the route. Halfway back, we want to go one way, sat-nav wants to go another! So, unwisely as it turned out, we listened to the sat-nav. Ended up in the entry way to a High School! Yes, we eventually convinced the sat-nav to take us where we wanted, but…modern technology is a wonderful thing at times lol!

Friday 21st

Back to Patriot Place, this time on a shopping and sightseeing trip. We both do some shopping, and then head to a ‘proper’ burger place for lunch. Yes, proper in the sense they grill it in front of you, as you order it, not any sign of tired pre-wrapped food here! Absolutely lovely it was too. Then I got inducted into the world of the Patriots lol, at the Pro Shop, and an excellent display called the Hall, over 2 floors. Not only, but mainly Patriots stuff, college, high school, and teams of the past from New England also get covered here. Oh, and I get to see 3 Superbowl trophies too, quite a sight. I also get to ‘try on’ a Superbowl ring at a display point. Yes, I was able to slip my ring finger in it, and for Kate to take my picture ‘wearing’ it. I could also nearly slip another finger in it too, to be honest lol. The evening, we head out for our final meal together, first place we try, very full (and I mean, very full!). Second place, not much quieter to be honest. We eye up a Japanese place, and I say as long as I dont have to eat Sushi…I didnt, had a very nice meal with noodles, and glad we ended up there. Back to hotel, said our goodbyes, as Kate was off early next morning, and I was being collected by shuttle to go back to the airport about midday.

Saturday 22nd.

I get up about 7.15, Kate’s car is still there, so thought I might get to see her off yet. By the time I’ve been to the little girls room, she’s gone, so I didnt. From here, for a while it gets boring for the reader, breakfast, packing, all those tedious things lol! Just after 11.45 I head out to the lobby, thinking I’ll be ready when the car gets there. Wrong, its already waiting, with a cute label over the door with my name on it. I felt a proper lady as he held the door open for me, and put my bags in the trunk. Again, after getting to the airport, nothing all that exciting or noteworthy happened.

As I said before, but will say again, so many thanks to both Kate and James for making the trip so wonderful. Thanks to Fenway, and Kates AO for letting her loose for the week too. Next big holiday, next April, part 1 of what I’m calling the Louise Brooks Memorial tour. LB may not have truly loved Wichita,, but part of her life was spent there, and I want to go take a look. Not sure if there is much of, or any indeed any trace of her left there, but I’ll have fun finding out anyway.

Right, part 2 musically, is a summing up of how most of the British Summer has been. This is so old, I cant find a live video for this!

The thank you speech

I’ll just keep this brief tonight, if you’ll forgive me, time is getting on, and given I fly back tomorrow night, I need to get a good nights sleep tonight. Besides which, its been a long, and wonderful week, but it might be beginning to catch up with me now. Either that, or equally possible, I’m now so stress free, and relaxed, that the brain is just switching down a bit. Might well be the latter, I havent slept this well in a while, and that seems an obvious reason why, just relaxed.

I will fill out more details after I get back, I promise, but for now…Lets face it, it will be 1 blog posting I wont have to concern myself as to the subject matter lol!

So for now, my biggest, and most grateful thanks go out to Kate, who has made a wonderful companion for the week. She has done a lot of wonderful things for me this week, and its all been so appreciated. While on the subject, I’d like to thank her AO (adored one), and Fenway the dog (before he nips my ankles for forgetting him lol) for letting Kate loose for what has been a really super week for me. Hopefully we can get together again at some point in the future, that would be great.

I also want to thank James for being a wonderful companion on Wednesday, and for taking me somewhere special. As I say, more details soon! You are a wonderful guy, it was a pleasure to meet you again, and look forward to a repeat in about 18 months time, for a bit of a longer stay.

And alright, thanks to both New England, and New York State for providing me with such wonderful places to visit.

No, I’m not going to do a blubbering Kate Winslet performance at this point, just provide the music video. I have used it before, but its just too apt not to use now.
