We talk in C, you talk in F

To those not getting the title, think temperatures. Here in the UK, as with so many parts of the world, we do them in Centigrade. But the US is one of few now that still does them in Fahrenheit. It means I still tend to think in the latter, because otherwise most of my friends across the Pond would think it was always below freezing over here. It does give me some fun moments over here when talking to Brits, and I do temperatures in F, and they look at me as if crazy lol.

Of course thats just one of numerous things that despite supposedly talking the same language, English, that is different between us, and the US. We put a u in so many words that Americans dont, and we pronounce words differently too. And thats before you even get to the whole lift/elevator thing too.

Anyway, last week one of my fellow EMCSA writers did a play on this in his story

No, I dont know which side of the pond he’s actually on, by the way.

Of course the snag with a story like this is that most of the amusement is lost unless you travel between the UK, and the US, like I do. Mind, to add to the confusion, though strictly we are now a metric country, all the road signposts are still in miles, not kilometres, and all our horse racing is still in miles, furlongs, and yards too, not metres. Yes, I remember when Ireland was changing between the two, you would find signposts in miles, others in kilometres, and no clue as to which was which, beyond (but not infallibly) the age of the signs, in that old ones would be miles, new ones kilometres, but anyway…

OK, the video, one of the songs most suitable for the issue discussed. It proves that not only could Fred, and Ginger dance in shoes (her in heels), but on roller skates too!

That’s Entertainment?

OK, seriously readers, if you are anywhere within range of Blackpool on March 15th, you want to be at the Winter Gardens in the evening. Oh, and ‘Nancy’, the fact you’re in Brisbane is only a fair excuse, not a good one, lol! 😛 No, thats not her real name, but she will know… 😉

Yes, yesterday, I was working at said venue, for their open day, helping to promote the film festival in March (runs from 15th – 17th, if planning to visit), and the MGM musical extravaganza of that name is the big first night movie. And yes, if you think this is me in a glamorous outfit

me at blackpool

You will have to want to see what I’m wearing on the big night for sure. I suspect at my age that it might not be quite as revealing as many of the outfits Clara Johnson wore, but I doubt it will be that modest either!

Oh, and we’re doing Wizard Of Oz on the Saturday morning, and I’ve said I will where something for that too, if required. Tin Woman might be too much to hope for, lol! But who knows, and would you want to miss that?

I must admit that Blackpool, rather like Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, has seen better days. But like Norma, there’s plenty of life in the old lady yet, and will be showing that in March. And yes, it will be warmer than January, hopefully! Certainly I’ll be glad to be indoors if I am doing the chorus girl look!

So seriously, if you’re reasonably nearby, or even if you’re not, but feeling adventurous, you know you want to be in Blackpool in March, if only to laugh at me, releasing my inner Clara!

Oh, for more details, darlings, go to http://www.wintergardensfilm.co.uk at the end of the week, for more details, and prices! See you there?

Video time. Astaire and Co, proudly present…?

Flying down to Blackpool?

Oh, lets face it, doesnt have quite the same ring as Rio, does it? And no, in March, I will be going by train, believe me. Well, given it will involve First Trans Pennine Express, and Northern Rail, maybe I should say, should be going by train, lol?

Yes, off to Blackpool again in March, for the film festival, and this time, with more planning, I’m working on a longer stay. Its handy that its the weekend of my birthday in that sense, as I will be off work anyway.

Seemingly one of the themes for next year is Hollywood glamour, which leads to a distinct possibility that I might yet get to have my ‘Clara Johnson’ chorus line moment, in suitable attire, which should be fun! Seems like the 42nd Street dance team that have been hired for the event might have a couple of extra, slightly less talented dancers on the team, lol!

So yes, if you want to see me make a fool of myself like that (or not), then you might want to arrange to be in Blackpool from 15th – 17th March, 2019, just saying…!

But why I picked this particular title, and this particular musical (no, its not 42nd Street) is because of something I learned about a wonderful friend today. She did what is termed as wing walking a while back, something I offer her my utmost admiration for doing. Of course she was secured, but even so…Oh fine, if someone had offered me the chance, when younger, I might have said yes, but…not sure I would now, other than for huge amounts of sponsorship, lol! 😛

Which brought me back to this. Yes, Clara Johnson is among the girls on the planes, though more a case of looking pretty here, than doing a sensational dance routine. In truth, I suspect she was probably about 30 feet (10 metres?) maximum off the ground, in front of a screen, and behind a fan, but anyway… Lets face it, they’re not going to let a girl actually fall a long way from an actual plane, over the sea, are they? Especially as one was Ginger Rogers…? Yes, just checked, not really in flight!

All the same, it looked amazing, I must say. As for Angie, and doing it for real, so uch admiration!

Right, video time. Yes, its that movie, and yes, its that shoot. No, thats one thing Clara ‘did’ that is going to take a lot of money for a good cause to get me to do, lol!
