Getting into London Town?

I think the last time I actually spent more than a few minutes in London would be about 3 years ago, when I went down to the ‘Big City’ for a work at home job interview, which I didnt get. I have briefly passed through once since then, when travelling down to Newbury, but apart from that, no, and I cant say I’ve really missed it. Tomorrow, I get to break that streak, though in truth, I wont see much before Thursday, but anyway…

Its funny, I lived in London for over 2 years, a long time ago (left in 2005), but its not an experience I plan to repeat anytime soon. I’ve been through there a few times since then, but unless you count Thamesmead as London town (which I dont), I havent stayed there, or done anything other than said interview since then.

But yes, tomorrow, I’m getting into London town, by train, after a half day at work, back permitting. As I say, I wont actually see anything of the centre of London before Thursday, when I head to Westminster, for a meeting at what seems to be the head office of my Civil Service department. Yes, the LGBT committee that I’m a proud member of, is meeting there this time. Oh, and dont laugh, but it looks like I’ve talked myself into doing it in a dress, now that should be fun. Yes, formal black dress, nothing too flapper for the heart of Westminster, lol.

In truth, I wont look around, I’ll get to the meeting, then I’ll head back to the Underground, and grab something to eat, and drink before heading for home. No, I doubt it will give me any desire to move back there either! I’m sure I will end up again in London, in this life, though I have no idea when. Even more so, as after today, I suspect my working life might not last until 66, as the back is definitely getting worse, not better! 😦

But yes, if you see a ‘mature’ lady in a dress, walking through Westminster on Thursday, just think, it could be me!

OK, the video. This was something a little different for Bucks Fizz, for sure.

Free will, or free from pain

Oh fine, I posted about this story last Sunday, but at the time I hadnt read the last few chapters, and seen the interesting way that the story culminated. Oh, the link for those unable to scroll back one week…

https://mcstories.com/OutOfMindControl/index.html

Given it can hardly be too much of a spoiler, for those who bothered to read it, Lilly might have got turned into a mindlessly obedient robot (which lets face it, I’d love, but most wouldnt), but events led to Trish getting a new robot body, but getting a pretty decent degree of sentience, even if I’m suspect that if someone wanted to control her mind, they probably could.

The hypothetical question for people like me (or even more disabled than me), is, given the choice, which would you prefer to choose? Pain free life, but in a ‘robot’ body, technically with sentience, though open to being controlled, or to have a free mind, and have to live with the pain?

I know, I’m not the best person to make a call on this, because lets face it, to get rid of all my pain, I’d take the Lilly option, lets face it, but hey, the Trish option would be absolute heaven! But would others do the same, or would they prefer their pain, but keep their free will, and a human body, hmm?

I know that for most of my readers, you have to try and imagine how painful, or limiting life is for some, but even then, if something happened to you, what level of disability would it take for you to take the Trish option (I’m assuming no one other than me would take the Lilly option), rather than carry on in pain, or is it just a total no go?

Comments here, on Facebook, Twitter, or to robotunit8@hotmail.com if you want to keep it private, or cant find the middle two, would be lovely, just saying. Not going to hold my breath for replies, but someone new might surprise me!

Video time. What you will need to do, in this theoretical exercise.

A fine Edwardian lady?

No, not for real, and for now at least, for one day only, honestly. And fine, unless you’re within reasonable distance of Blackpool, England, you’re not going to see any of it, I’m sure. But yes, a week on Saturday, I will be the perfect embodiment (well, perfect is stretching it, I guess?) of an Edwardian lady. I know, stop laughing, as the best I can possibly do is imagine what life was like as an Edwardian lady, and play my part accordingly. Oh, for all those now putting Blackpool, on June 9th in their diary, and wondering why, this is why!

Blackpool pier day

Yes, you know you want to be there, dont you? I know, for most of my readers (given that my stats suggest most are in US), its not going to happen. But if you read this, and are in reasonable distance, feel free to come and support. If you do, and you see a mature Edwardian looking lady, dressed in purple, come up and introduce yourself to me!

I know, according to history, and well, Wikipedia, an Edwardian lady should be tightly corseted under her outfit. Well, maybe…? Put it this way, I’m planning on taking a corset with me, and if someone offers to tie me up ‘tightly’ in it, then I wont say no! Snag is, the corset is elderly, not as elderly as me, but over 10 years old, and hasnt been worn for a long while, as I have always found tying knots difficult (especially behind my back), and as the arthritis in my fingers has got worse, it became impossible more than a few years ago, so I have no idea how strong its feeling, or even if it will fit me now! But if anyone in West Yorkshire, or the Blackpool area (person, or company) has a corset I can borrow for the day, natural waist around 34 – 36 inches (no, I dont do centimeters lol!), please contact me through here, or by email at stephmajor8@hotmail.com . Should anyone do so, please put corset somewhere in the email title, so that I spot it amongst all the spam, lol! It is for a good cause, and it will be returned, just saying… I could provide a Paypal address, but in truth, I dont think I could purchase one now in time to get it here in a week!

I must admit, my previous research on the Edwardian era is pretty much zero, having never played any parts set in that era in my time. All I do know is that its a very different time to now, it was only during that time that people flew in a plane for the first time, and that first flight lasted 11 seconds! Yes, a few balloon flights before then, but to travel any great distance, you went by sea. I do remember ‘Upstairs Downstairs’ from TV, many decades ago, and I’m pretty certain I’m playing more of an ‘Upstairs’ lady on the day. It was a period before WW1, when the world seemed so at peace, little realizing that a decade or so later, all hell would break out, quite figuratively. Though of course, for most women at that time, they didnt go to war, beyond a brave few. Oh, and before the vote of course, though the Suffragette movement was just beginning to take off by then.

But yes, a week on Saturday, I’m going to do my best to play the part of a ‘fine’ Edwardian lady, before I return to modernity again for the evening. I wonder what the woman of a century ago would make of modern life? Or indeed, what I would make of Edwardian life, even as a fine lady?

Fine, video time. Its fair to say that the Edwardian times have definitely gone. Strangely enough, music videos of that era are slightly lacking! So, a little live Bucks Fizz instead. I have used the original video before, but not for 6 years, but as I found this…
