You make me feel so frisky.

Yes, fine, has anyone got a brooch like this one, that I can borrow for September, and the wedding?

http://192.155.80.152/MadelinesBrooch/index.html

Oh fine, maybe I could live without the enhanced libido? Though who knows, if I looked that good, maybe it would be fun having the natural urges to match? Some would say its been far too long, and maybe it has been, though I cant say I’ve missed it. But if I looked that glamorous, and had that perfect a transformed body, then fine, it might be fun, putting it in action! Alright, given the supposed limit on the transformation period, I’d have to be careful when I used it, though seemingly, there is a hint at the end of what we have now, that maybe if you use it often enough…? ūüėČ

OK, once, just to look good for my friend’s big day might be fine, but if that meant I caught the eye of someone, well…maybe once, or twice more, just to get a healthy sex drive again… ? ūüėČ Oh, and the fact it cleans up your blemishes too, given the state of my knees, I could wear a short dress again too, hmm?

Oh fine, sadly its only fictional, but if anyone knows differently, or thinks they can give me a makeover by creating one, or by other means, let me know! I know someone would love to see me get, and wear that flapper dress, but given those generally are above the knee in length, and the state of my knees, a ‘blemish removal system’ down there might be handy! Do they do flesh colored knee ‘stockings’, a la the body stockings, lol?

Mind, if I got said flapper dress, and knee covers, I’d probably want to time travel back to the 20’s lol! I know, I know…but…In truth, I probably just need someone to convince me to buy one, ideally by tampering with my mind, though being submissive, being told to buy one might work lol! No, I havent seen one like the LA one on Ebay, but have seen ones (admittedly from China, so not sure of quality?) that certainly look the part, but…I know I wont do it on my own, just saying…

But yes, if anyone knows of one of those brooches, or has a nice transformation chamber they want to try out, well…? ūüėČ

The video. Found this, think it works?

I will take all the memories home with me

So this is it, the last blog from LA for a considerable period of time at least, if ever again. I know, I could come back again, and may even need to come back again sooner than that, but being practical, I have many other places to see, some for the first time, some for repeat visits, so its going to be a while, if ever again. And yes, at my age, with the distance involved, and I’m sure the deterioration of my physical health, which is far from perfect even now, I’m sure I wont be able to do as much then, as I can now, anyway. I’m already suspecting that delights like walking up the long hill at Forest Lawn might be beyond me by then at least, but we will see.

To be fair, if you’d told me back in October ’15, that my next holiday would be back here, I would have laughed at you, but its happened. I guess I just wanted to show this city that I’d battled through everything that life had thrown at me, and got here again. But now thats done…?

In some ways today has been a light day, I havent actually left Hollywood. However, I spent a lot of the day on my feet, walking, so maybe not as light as all that? It was actually interesting going on a guided walking tour of Hollywood, where I knew the guide! I know, end of holiday, but in truth, it didnt matter, as I got to visit lots of old buildings that I’d never have got into myself. Oh fine, the one that amused me the most, has to be Musso and Frank’s! Yes, I finally got to go in there, if only for coffee, but at least I now know what it actually looks like from the inside. Of course, for works of fiction, thats a mere technicality, but at least I’ve made it there now. Yes, its every bit as impressive as I’d been led to believe. So if I ever want to use it in a story again lol…?

The other thing I’d already decided was where my last big meal in town would be, and though its not bargain basement, its cheaper than that legendary place. So I settled for the 50’s feel of Mels Diner, for one last time. After that, a couple of final, final goodbyes, at the star, and prints of Jean Harlow, before heading back to base. I do wish there was a star to the uncredited chorus girls/bit part actresses of the world, but no, there isnt, so I just said goodbye to Clara Johnson generally, as I turned off the Boulevard for the last time, on foot at least.

What can I say? You can take a woman out of Yorkshire, but you cant take Yorkshire out of a woman? Yes, I stopped off at a gorgeous, quirky, vintage clothing store on the way back, and saw the most gorgeous, silver flapper dress, really looked the part. Had my size too, but I didnt get it. Why? Because I cant justify spending $65 (plus tax, I’m sure) on a dress I have no idea when, or where I would ever wear it. So yes, I know I’ll regret it, but it stayed in the shop. I could get it in the morning (shop opens at 11, I have to be ready to go at 12.30, and its about 5 minutes walk), but I know I wont.

The only walk I’m planning at present to do in the morning, is a short trip around the block, so that I can walk a little way up Beachwood Drive, looking at the Hollywood sign, one more time. No, I’m not going as far as Verbena though, thats far too far for the short period of time I have left ‘in the sun’ of LA.

Yes, thats it for here. Pretty sure you’ll have to wait until Monday for the next blog, I’ll have too much catching up to do on Sunday for that.

The video. I’m surprised I havent used this Elaine Paige classic before, but seemingly I havent (well, on 1 blog at least), so lets use it now

What they’re forgetting is, this is 1922

I know, I know, its actually nearly 100 years on from that landmark, but you’ve guessed this blog is going back to the Flapper era, havent you? And if you havent, why not? Yes, this event appeared in my mail box this morning.

http://www.flyingscotsman.org.uk/events/lates-roaring-20s/

I know, and free too! Unfortunately for this poor, broke flapper girl, it costs a bit too much to get there, and back, especially as I would get back to Huddersfield after the buses had stopped for the night. And no, at the end of April, I am not walking up from town, wearing a flapper dress, and heels, at my age! I could get a taxi, but that all adds to the cost, and its all money I havent got! About ¬£40 ($60) at a rough guess, there, or thereabouts, even being a good girl at the party, and not spending too much. Add in that I’d probably want to get my hair done 20’s style, and fine, its not going to happen. But yes, it would be fun. Only blessing is, because its free, I can keep it on my list, as a maybe, until its too late anyway!

Unless some “Mr Hearst” (or indeed Ms Hearst) wants to take, or treat this poor little “Marion Davies” to the party, and then…

Funnily enough, this time last year, I was getting ready to party in the past, too. An era slightly more recent, and somewhere a lot warmer than here! Yes, a year ago tomorrow, I first went to Hollywood for 10 days, in a hotel. Of course, I’ve since had 4 weeks in an apartment, but back then, a hopelessly excited lady was getting ready for her dream trip. And on that first Saturday, I headed to the Egyptian Theatre, for the most amazing 40’s night. It was a wonderful present, from 2 dear American friends, and I had a wonderful time. The only less wonderful thing? I ended up walking back to my hotel afterwards, in high heels, nearly a mile! I had never done that before, and hopefully never again. I can do it, but my knees truly hate it, so…

Of course, if you’d told me back then that finding a job, after getting back, would be nearly as hard as during the Depression, for a Flapper, I might not have been so excited about it all. But back in those glorious days…

Oh, one last thing, given the last post here was about LA, and the last post on the other blog was about special friends…One dear friend, who I met through Facebook, and who was responsible for one of my real delights of the October trip, the visit to The Magic Castle, posted this on my timeline, when she saw my praise for Mr Scully

I miss you, beautiful.

Ignoring all comments about me, and being beautiful, and needing glasses, you have no idea how wonderful that remark was, Eden. Yes, believe me, I’d rather be there too, at the moment.

Fine, the video. You can guess the song, surely? Not Julie Andrews, though, but Sutton Foster, who played the role on Broadway, I gather. PS, the music only lasts 4 minutes, not as long as it looks!

A few pictures from today

Well, I’ll warn you now, if you’re looking for 500 words of wisdom, wait for the next blog. A bit like a Trans Pennine Express train, it will arrive, err, sometime soon! I could jokingly say that today, and tomorrow are the only days in the year that their trains aren’t late, and thats because there arent any! On the other hand, if you want a picture of ‘the dress’ and a couple of other shots from today, you’re in the right place!

So getting started, at long last, here is a picture of that delicious pink, flapper style dress, complete with bared knees.

Next, a picture of a wonderful present, a necklace that is absolutely gorgeous, and fits in with the look

Yes, as you might quickly spot, this was taken before I changed, and I’m wearing a ‘most expensive’ grey/silver dress, which is lovely to look at, and equally nice to wear. I’m kidding about the cost, its one of my charity shop specials, and did not cost a fortune! A full length shot of it next

My thanks to Nicole Woodhouse for taking the photos for me.

So thats it, I hope it was worth the wait?

I’ve had a lovely day, but yes, thats it for me, back to work tomorrow!

The video, probably the one Christmas song I havent heard this year, and I have no idea why?

Dressing up time

It seems that the venue isnt the only thing to change with the Work Christmas Dinner, dress style is as well. Every other year since I joined, the rule has been formal, a suit for either gender, or a dress for ladies. Well, I guess if someone had really wanted to stir the pot, a man could have worn a dress, but anyway… Me, given my age, and the state of my legs (not a pretty sight because of various injuries over the years), I’ve always worn a¬†trouser suit, albeit with a much nicer blouse than I’d ever wear to work, but…

This year, things have changed, along with the venue. Fancy Dress is an option this year! Thankfully those in our department thinking about the idea¬†do seem to realise this needs to be classy, and not the sexy nurse/maid type, or equivalent for men! No, I’ve no idea how many in the whole building plan to go down the Fancy Dress route, I’ll only find out on the night, I guess. To be honest, I think its a great idea, but I wasnt planning on any difference to my look, until…

Sunday at work, someone turned to me, and¬†said “I expect you to wear a dress this year, in that case.” Clearly she has never seen my knees, or my legs (she hasnt, believe me!), or she would never suggest it. I have heard hints elsewhere too, probably because I am about the only one who hasnt worn a dress in the past, so…And no, before you ask, I’m certainly not going as Cinderella or the type, I couldnt afford the dress lol!

One thought I have had, but have no idea¬†if it counts as such, is the obvious one. Would dressing as a Flapper count as Fancy¬†Dress under the circumstances? And did any Flapper wear a dress longer than knee length? Because even if I do so, it has to be ankle, or maxi length¬†for me, or heading that way at least. I could ask a hairdresser to try and get my hair into a shoulder length bob look, I guess, though the fringe might be a bit fragile lol! No, I’m not going short, I’m butch enough looking without that!

Will it happen, me in a dress, dont hold your breath! Its bad enough that I’m even thinking about it! But I guess, if I must, the twenties look would at least be fun, though it would need a miracle to make me look like Brooksie¬†all the same! But would that even count as Fancy Dress? And no, I dont think the robot look is what they have in mind for the dinner, lol! ūüėõ

To be honest, given I dont normally bother much with make up, the trouser suit is easiest, I can stick with the norm. I start wearing a dress (of any kind) and people will expect make up too. And as I’m working¬†that day, I cant bribe a friend to do it for me. So…

I’m off next week, on holiday, so will go on shopping trips (one definite, another probably), and now I dont know whether to look for 20’s style dresses, or deliberately avoid them!¬†Do Flappers count as Fancy Dress under these circumstances though? Feel free to offer views.

In the meanwhile, a video to view, from the 1920’s

Reality TV

Normally I avoid “Reality TV” like the plague. All its cast offs too, relating mainly to pop music as well, just cant stand the fakeness of most of them to be honest. In fact I take the best route possible, and try not to think about them at all, though its not easy at times, due to the fact that people will actually bet on these series, the live ones at least, and whether by accident, or connivance, the pre recorded ones as well, like The Apprentice. As I say, I try to avoid them.

But then, in one of my contests this month, someone wrote a story loosely based around a reality TV series called Survivor. No, but for Wikipedia, I wouldnt have a clue what the real version was like. Dont quote me on it, but I’m not sure it¬† even exists this side of the Atlantic. (UK, for those not coming here through the forums) But lets face it, for the story written, it was the entertainment factor I was looking for, not details about said programme.

The only one I’ve seen anything of, is Big Brother, the UK version, and in all honesty, only snippets of the first couple¬† of series. As mentioned, I cant stand these programmes, it was just there were a couple of entertaining characters in then, and it was before the ‘fame for 15 minutes brigade’ took it over as well. I know to some degree, allegedly, these people do suffer a bit, but not enough imo. And lets face it, with things like X-Factor, we get to suffer afterwards when they think they might really be pop stars!

But yes, I’d like to see them really suffer. Can you imagine our modern, pampered twenty somethings coping with life as it was a hundred years ago? Hope you’re laughing at the thought as much as I am! To be honest, I suspect taking them back 40 or 50 years in living standards would be more than enough to see most fall at their knees. You want a phone, use the phone box. TV, 3 channels, and make the most of it. Anyone remember how large computers were, even back in the eighties? Not sure how far back you go for the first commercial microwave ovens, but its not that far, I suspect?

And all that is just going back 40 years, lets face it. You imagine the modern generation living only with what was around in the 20’s or 30’s,¬†say? I know, I know, attitudes have changed a lot, but…It might at least make reality TV entertaining trying to see them cope in that situation, instead of the modern settings. Even I might watch some of the mirth that might cause!

Alright, the video. Given the Brooksie side of my nature, I’m only amazed I didnt think of this before, as its probably the film that most relates to that whole era, or was until “The Artist” came along at least. So beat the drum, because here comes ‘Thoroughly Modern Stevie” now!

Apologies for the film titles, but it was the most decent version I could find, and I do love the Julie Andrews facials, and general expressions in this

Silver Lady

My thanks actually go to Dave here at home, who indirectly suggested the title of this blog.

Its funny, it used to be a case that when I went shopping, I kept an eye open for silver items of clothing, no prizes for working out why! Alright, as I proved today, I still do. But, and heres the interesting point, my first instinct wasnt robot, though that thought did come to mind, it was that it would work as a 20’s flapper type top/short skirt (just about knee length I guess). So alright, I could have gone for the similar one in black, but hey, old habits die hard lol!

The good news with this, as opposed to the last 20’s style item I bought, its machine washable, yay! I also bought a new handbag, or more strictly a shoulder bag in green. Hasnt got an outside pocket (generally a must with me, for train pass etc), but otherwise, perfect. Got a little blue purse/card holder thing, to help with finding it in the bag though. How much for all 3, just ¬£11! Top/skirt was massively reduced, the others less so, but still cheaper than they should have been. I know, the recession isnt good for everyone, but give me the chance of an appealing bargain, and… ūüôā

Its funny, you think you’ve got a week off, you should be able to get things done. Indirectly, yes, I have, but in terms of reading and writing, no chance! Both Monday and yesterday had appointments to keep which took up most of the day, and alright, today I just wanted to get out! Was a good shopping expedition, even if the bus travel wasnt. Arriva buses, take a bow, but only of shame! Tomorrow, I will get some reading done, I will, I must!

The video, yes, not hard to work out, a song from the late seventies, by the title of…oh, you’ve worked it out, why tell you. The shock, its a live one, and unlike so many ‘celebrity’ singers, David Soul clearly could sing!
