The morning sun is shining?

Like a baseball, probably not? But fine, I’ve killed the most famous baseball song to death over the years, so lets try something a bit different for the song. Interestingly enough, I found a ‘live’ version of this, but not from either of the writer’s groups! So yes, a group out of left field for you tonight.

The season actually started yesterday, as many wise people might have noted, and yes, I managed to see a couple of games over here on TV yesterday morning before bedtime. Unfortunately, the Dodgers game was after midnight over here, even if it was a late afternoon game in California, so missed that one. Unlike many from last year, a real pitchers game, which unfortunately the Dodgers lost 1-0. Yeah, one of the games was 14-7, seriously!

This year, my plan, given I’m only going to make 1 trip to the US (unless someone else pays for my stay, or I win a contest or something, neither of which is ever likely to happen), and things work out that way, I’m planning to sneak in 2 games during my stay in Seattle in May. I’m pretty sure that given my health, sitting in a baseball stadium during the afternoon after arrival might be about all my back is good for! After that, Mariners are away for a few days, but then come back for the following weekend, so I’ll plan to go on either the Friday, or Saturday evening. Probably the Saturday, as the recovery time I’ll need will ensure I have no crazy ideas of trying to go very far from the hotel on the Sunday, after packing to go home, as I dont fly back until the afternoon. But at the same time, Friday might work better, as at least it would then allow me on the Saturday to look back one last time at Seattle before leaving, whereas late at night, I wouldnt see much?

Will that be it for a city I love? Not sure? If my back is up to my post retirement plan to visit Alaska, then I will probably be back in 2024, as its an ideal place to split the journey for me. But in truth, given the state of my back, I’m less sure I’ll be up to that trip by the month, but we will see. But yes, I’ll probably look back as if it is, just in case.

It will be a nice way to round the circle at least, as the first baseball park I saw on a solo trip to the US was Seattle. Strictly, back in 1987, I saw Fenway Park from a considerable distance, but that was it. Funny thing is, I’ve been to Seattle a couple more times since, but once was out of season (I did a stadium tour instead), and the second time, the only day they were at home on the stay was the Sunday. The plan was to go, but then my flight was delayed by 9 hours to Chicago, so spent Saturday night there, only arrived in Seattle at lunchtime on Sunday, and yes, it was an afternoon game! So, I plan to get it done this time, twice over, lol!

I will see more from here during the summer, for sure, mainly matinee games due to the time difference, but there will be a few of them, for sure. And of course, there may be some live games on ESPN (assuming the hotel has it?) while in the US too.

And yes, fine, I’m sure that in about 7 months time, I’ll be looking at the climax of the season, and hopefully Dodgers will go one better this time around!

Video time. Paul Simon (Simon & Garfunkel), and Bruce Woodley (Seekers) wrote this song, but as I say, I cant find a live performance by either on You Tube. But seemingly, the group that first brought it to fame were a 2 hit wonder called the Cyrkle. However, dont feel sorry for the guys, apparently they went on to write numerous famous ad jingles from the 60’s and 70’s!

High flying lady?

Before I get started here, I have to thank Eric Woodhouse for inspiring me to write this, due to a long running ‘joke’ between the 2 of us. Sadly, unfortunately, he hasnt gone as far as actually buying me a nice alien suit (which if I had, I’d definitely wear) to really allow his statement to become real. Oh, and yes, I would truly love it, if someone did! So if anyone has some money to spare, to make an old ladies day…?

Yes, I know, before anyone says anything, the thing I’m renowned for wanting ‘to be’ is a robot, lets face it, the clue is in the title of the blog series. But as he, and my dear friend Stacie both know, I fancy being an alien almost as much. Yes, I’d really love a flying saucer, or space craft, but they’re probably a bit trickier to find than a really nice alien suit, lol! 😛

The other thing is, Eric has a habit of watching something called the History Channel over here. I assume its also on in the US, but whether like TCM, they have entirely different programming, no idea. Yes, US TCM would be my scene, UK version, definitely not!

Anyway, said History Channel seems to cover all sorts of ‘crazy’ subject matter, and one of their favorites at present is, you’ve guessed it, aliens! Oh, and of course that involves that wonderful area known as Area 51, and UFO’s, of course.

Let me say I’m not going to make a call about Area 51, Aliens, abductions, UFO’s, and the sort. Me, I’d love them to be real, and if they are, I’d love for them to come and prove it to me! In truth, I suspect Area 51 is far less sensation than portrayed, and as a fellow writer commented, its not Area 51 we need to concern ourselves about, its probably the surrounding areas that are a little more top secret. After all, if aliens are real, and on Earth, a decoy zone. like Area 51 would just be perfect, lets face it. Everybody’s watching that, whereas nearby, the really interesting stuff is really happening!

So yes, should any studios, or other production areas need an actress to dress up in a really enclosing alien suit, please, please let me at least audition for the role, full costume naturally! 😉 Even better if its err, hard to get out of, after putting on, lol!

Anyway, to amuse my readers, I found this picture on Twitter this morning, and thought how perfect it would be to be the model for that shot!

alien self

Apologies for the writing with it, but it is rather good, and I lack the technical skills to remove it anyway! Jokingly posted it as me, without makeup, which of course it isnt, but whether I really look a lot better, hmm? But yes, watching the baseball (as I am now), dressed like that would just be so much fun. Pluto Pirates against the Neptune Mets, maybe? Lol!

Equally, if some aliens want to save me spending so long on a standard air flight to Seattle in May, by flying me in a space craft, or flying saucer, oh please! Refuel in Area 51, hmm? 😉 Of course, if they want it to take about 15 hours, by doing a diversion via the moon, say, wink, wink?

So yes, I only wish I could find, and afford a really good alien suit like that, just to wear to get Eric going beautifully. Oh, and Stacie (and probably others) would love to see the pictures too!

OK, video time. I’ve done most of the space songs before, but then I thought of this. Not his biggest hit, by a long stretch (Music is a gorgeous song), but this seems to work?

Whats in a name?

When it comes to names used in a story, there are a few that catch my eye, I have to admit. Its fair to say I’ve used Stephanie way too many times, generally not subtly in stories, but hey, as the author I’m allowed to do that lol! Its safe to say that no one, other than me, maybe, is going to use the name Harlean in a story, lets face it, and Clara is hardly likely to be the first choice for most nowadays.

There is however one other name, rarely used, that will also catch my eye, and thats Meredith. Why, simples! Because my ebook author name is Merry Brooks of course, though the likelihood of me releasing more ebooks in that name are slim at present, for better, or worse.

So when one author, whose work I enjoy included a character of that name, I took a special interest in her. He probably wishes he could change the name, to get me off his back, but anyway…Lets just say she has an interesting life, and leave it at that. This weekend, she got a story of her own, which was fun to read

http://192.155.80.152/FairShareMeredithsFirst/index.html

No, I have no experience of working as an escort, at any point in my life, let me say. And to be honest, its one of those jobs that I simply have no idea how I’d react to it, if I had. I must admit, I love the way Meredith sort of hesitates over doing it/not doing it, and everything else involved, all makes for a delightful read. How things will work out for her in the end, no idea, but I’m enjoying the main story (Fair Share, but given there are 36 chapters, you may not be feeling that brave?), so it will be fun to find out.

I must admit, the companionship side of it, and all that stuff would be lovely. Me, not so sure about the whole sex thing, mind, lol! I know, one comes with the other, but…?

Talking of things that might be fun to do, but I probably wouldnt, here are a couple of body stockings as a fine example. No, I havent got that kind of figure, not sure that I ever did have, but this would be so much fun.

So, ‘Voulez Vous’, me, as your escort for the night? 😉

Hands up, and use your phone, honey!

For those who see both blogs, this for once, is the more serious one! I know, but no disrespect, but I think the whole Clara Johnson past life thing probably works better with the audience over there. If you think otherwise, let me know, OK?

Sometime back in the 1980’s, the first mobile phones were released to the public. They weighed roughly as much as a brick, similarly sized, and the battery life was measured in terms of a few hours. Nowadays, some are so tiny, the battery lasts forever, and have computing powers way ahead of what my computer had less than 20 years ago!

I’ll admit it, guilty, a couple of years after they first came out, and prices had just descended from crazy levels, I bought one for myself. No, I never used it a lot, but it had times when it was handy. I owned a couple more until about the turn of the century, when my phone was a lot smaller, I reached a point where owning one became a pointless exercise. I think I could did get another, for a few years in the mid 2000’s, but eventually I never needed to use it, the credit ran out, then the sim expired, and I never bothered again. So I would guess the last time I had a working mobile phone in the UK would be about 2009, or 2010. I have had a US one for a few years, that I use when away over there, sometimes (never got topped up last time), but that has been it.

But now, for reasons of wisdom, I’m the owner of a UK phone again. Not because I feel the sudden need to inanely chat to, or text people, but because of health issues, and related security. Yes, the ‘ancient old lady’ needs to be able to contact people, in case of emergency, so its probably a wise move. Like my US one, its thankfully a very basic model, this one with nice big buttons, for my poor arthritic fingers, nothing very smart, just like me! 😛

I think its fair to say that the chance of me ever sending 500 texts in a month, or talking for 150 minutes in same period is almost certainly nil! The latter might get more use than the former, but even so…but at least I’ve now got one, should I need it. But no, unlike some, I have no desire to talk on it the whole length of a journey from Huddersfield, to Bradford, by bus, and yes, I’ve seen that numerous times, eek!

OK, video time. I suspect that if Clara Johnson had been a dancer in the 1970’s, and 80’s, she might have been doing something like this. Before you say these outfits are skimpy, its positively puritan compared to some I’ve seen her wearing in pictures! Oh fine, I probably dreamed of doing this when I was young!

Moving forward in time?

I know, all my US readers will wonder what I’m talking about, as you moved the clocks forward for summer time just over a week ago. We here in Europe arent quite so keen, as we move the clocks forward this weekend. Yes, the loss of an hours sleep, and all that, mutter, mutter…lol!

In theory at least, spring officially starts here, by the way. No, it doesnt feel like it at present, I must say. But yes, the notable landmark for me, the start of the baseball season is a mere 9 days away, though I wouldnt fancy watching it in Cleveland, Boston, or Colorado at present, to name a few. There is somewhere even more northerly of course, Toronto, but yes, that can be an indoor stadium, so temperature is less of an issue. My ‘fondest’ memory would be April baseball in Rochester (minor league), when the temperature was barely above freezing. In practice it was a double header, but one game in freezing weather was more than plenty for me!

Of course the more amusing date we are heading for, slightly further ahead than this weekend, is the arrival of the twenties! So yes, everyone needs to get back into Jazz music, Flapper dresses, and illegal booze lol! Oh, I wish! Oh fine, I suspect the 2020’s will be very different to the 1920’s, and lets definitely hope they dont end with the same crash at the end of that decade, though I strongly suspect I wont care by then, either way! But yes, I’ll keep my new flapper dress, just in case we get a twenties match up! 😉

In truth, I need summer, and some heat to arrive, the sooner the better. Fine, here in the UK, I doubt the heat we will get will have any dramatic effect on my back, unfortunately. So if someone wants to pay for me to move to somewhere where its hot all year round, I would appreciate it, though not expecting it to happen. Yes, in hindsight, going as far north as Seattle, even in May might not have been my best option, but I’ll survive, I guess?

And yes, I know, I’ll get my hour of sleep back at the end of October (just before US does), but thats a long way off! Well, hopefully it is, as thats when the baseball season ends, lol! But yes, I’m hoping the spring forward with the clocks, will be matched by a spring upwards in temperatures. Yes, stop laughing!

Right, video time. What we wont be doing on Saturday night/ Sunday morning, when an hour of time will beat us, not the other way round!

Didnt I have a lovely time, the day I went to Blackpool?

Well, hopefully a few of you at least have been eagerly waiting for the report from Friday night. If you werent, you’re getting it anyway! 😛

Beyond a few moments of, err, entertainment on the last section of the journey, from Preston, to Blackpool, in truth the journey was relatively unexciting. The ‘entertainment’, some very loud children, and the fact that we had 2 wheelchair passengers, as opposed to the train designed 1, caused some fun. But in truth, we arrived pretty much on time.

The hotel was pretty much standard budget hotel, with thin walls which we noticed overnight (people talking outside the room), and though in theory we had a second bed, it was so designed that neither of us, in perfect health conditions would have been able to get out, and besides, we had no bedding for it anyway! Survey comments done, lol! But fine, thats not what you want to hear about, is it? So after a meal together, Eric went back to the Trams, I went off to the Winter Garden, and through the time travel portal. Fine, not literally, but you get the drift? After an early false start, the staff worked out where we needed to go, and lo and behold, I was soon in a lovely, and short pink flapper dress. Fine, I wasnt going to care about length for one night, but more on that shortly. Thing is, flappers werent designed to have boobs, or big shoulders, and the zip wouldnt do up properly at the back. Anyway, as you will see shortly, I was quickly changed into another dress which was longer, with no zip issues, perfection! Well, I was flashing someleg, but…

Oh fine, like this!

Me in Blackpool

There is a better one of me, but it has someone else in the picture, and I’m loathe to use that without her permission. I suspect she wouldnt care, but to be on the safe side… If she grants it in hindsight, I will add it to the posting. So if you come here in 6 months time, see 2 photos, and are confused, you know why!

The evening was great fun, lots of lovely people that I was working with, equally a lot of nice people in the audience, including 1 wonderful gentleman I talked to for a while, who had originally come from Bradford! However, having flirted as an Usher prior to performance, stood on the stairs, we eventually got told that part of our work was done. I decided to give the film, Some Like It Hot a chance, but it didnt grab me much, so after an hour or so, I headed back to the refreshment area, got myself a coffee, and started chatting with a few others, until it was time for part 2, getting those who had paid for it, to the party upstairs.

All went smoothly, then a few of us went up to the Balcony, put on a bit of a show (very tame dancing, by Flapper standards, I suspect) for the guests for a while, then I, and a few others went back and changed into modern life again. One treat I had for a while, was to do something I’d never done before (and no, it wasnt to dance the Charleston), which was to wear a pair of those long gloves that go up to your elbow, and maybe beyond. I’d seen pictures of them, always wanted to wear them, and now I have!

End result, everything, and everyone was so lovely, I’m already planning on going back next year, however crazy, and unpractical that is. Might be a different era, but as long as it doesnt mean wearing something as revealing as what my past life self, the chorus line dancing, Clara Johnson had to wear, all should be fine. But no, I’m not going to suggest 42nd Street, or the like, just in case, lol! But beyond that, I’ll definitely be back. Fine, if it is that, I will probably still go back!

The journey home by ‘modern trains’ was a bit more entertaining. The train from Preston, back to Manchester was very crowded, but ‘Queen Bitch’ soon pushed a way through for me, and Eric, to our reserved seats, and someone was already sat in them! Yes, they got moved, probably not my most diplomatic moment of my life, but hey, its principle, and neither of us could have stood, anyway!

Then we get back to Manchester, running late, so going to be a tight push, or no go for our booked train back to Huddersfield. Only…I looked at the departure board, it had been cancelled! So anyway, the next train was going to be very crowded, (2 sets of passengers, plus loads of football fans), but I lined Eric up roughly where I thought the doors would be, and we grabbed 2 seats very quickly!

After that, out last night, with Ella as well, for the birthday meal. I wore the same dress as last week again, so I stayed in Flapper mode for the weekend. Oh, should I mention, this was all done in lots of snow!

In theory I’m back to work tomorrow, but if it had been today, I’m certain it would have been a ‘snow day’ off, with my physical issues. Tomorrow, who knows? Hopefully its better in the morning, I must say. Not just because I’m due back, but because I need to learn something for the following week, which I will probably relate later in the week, but until then…?

Yes, I hurt, partly because of Friday, partly because of the current weather. When (or strictly at this point, I guess, if) I do this next year, I’ll pace it better, all that travel, on top of everything else, in 1 day, was just too much now. Go down the day before, build to it, and have a day off afterwards to recover, before coming back, far wiser! But hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Video time. The frightening thing for me, this song is 50 years old, and I remember it being released!

The last modern day blog?

Before anyone starts to panic, no this isnt the last one, honest it isnt, but I want to be silly, one last time before I hit 60, and as a concept title, and a play on the video, it works perfectly, so…

Yes, tomorrow, I hit 60, and officially, as far as some places see it at least, I become a senior citizen. Strictly, at time of writing, its 4 hours to go, but in a strict sense, its about 18 and a half hours yet, as I was born somewhere around 2.30 in the afternoon, I was told. But yes, as far as the records state, just 4 hours!

In a sense at least, I’m actually winding the years back tomorrow, to about minus 30! Flapper babe, dont you know, darlings! oh fine, its an act, its a role, but if I could…

I must admit, short term at least, I’d love to go back, for a week or so at least, and live life as Clara did in the late 1920’s. Or even the early 1930’s, as long as she provided me with her dancing skills! Yes, and of course I want to be her age, so I can have all that fun, darlings! Wouldnt that be the Cats Whiskers! So all I need is a mad scientist, with a rejuvenation machine, and a time travel portal, and then…?

I wonder what it would be like, if it happened? I guess so much depends on whether I then remembered this life, or not? If I didnt, and was left a young, pretty lady, in the late 20’s, with good dancing skills, in Hollywood, or Broadway, I could probably make a pretty decent living! Clara seems to have done OK, lets face it!

Might be weirder if I remembered modern life as well, trying to get by without the blessings of internet, long distance flights, and the like! I guess if it was only for a week, I’d survive, but if it was forever? I guess I’m guilty of getting used to the benefits of modern life, even if I do still avoid ownership of cell phones whenever possible.

Oh, on the latter, I’ve had orders, due to my health issues, from tomorrow onwards (assuming I dont find said mad scientist, and get whisked back to the 1920’s, as a young woman), I will own one. Mainly because as it has been pointed out to me (by several people) that given my health issues, I really ought to have one, in case of emergencies, if nothing else. Of course, if you look at pictures, it looks like some of those stars of the past had phones…

Fine, I’m sure they’re compacts, but at first glance…? 😉 So fine, maybe it wouldnt be out of place in 1928 lol?

So yes, if a mad scientist, or someone else turns me into a young, pretty, all dancing talent Clara Johnson lookalike tomorrow, and finds me that time travel portal, then this might be the last blog you ever see. But lets face it, the chance of that is about 0.0000000001% lol! But, I can dream…?

OK, the video. This video is quite something, almost Kraftwerk like in style. Sadly, they pretty much had a couple of hits, and that was it!
