What sort of wife would I like to be?

Earlier today, I was talking to one of my US friends on Facebook messenger, and we were discussing all the options to enable me to go and live in the US. The obvious one would be the work opportunity, but convincing an employer to job sponsor me, at my age, and with my list of skills, it might be easier said than done. It could happen, and if some employer reads this, and wants to offer me a job, then yes please!

The second one, which might be amusing at my, err, more advanced age, would be on a student visa. Not only is there the snag of being rather mature to be a student, especially given I never went beyond O Levels at school, due to a single parent scenario, where I had to get out to work ASAP, its not that practical an option either.

The third one, and I must say, one that fills me with amusement at the thought of it, is the marriage option! Fine, I’m laughing too, I’m 58, have been independently single for about 16 years, and not every man’s dream woman either! Well, I say man, but I’m equally open to a female partner nowadays, but anyway…

But yes, its not just the fact that I’m well used to doing what I want to do, when I want to do it, that might make being a good wife complex. As is well known around here, or should be at least, me and sex arent great partners! Thats actually over 17 years since I did “it” with another person, in fact! Oh, and I havent cooked regularly, or anything more than basically, in years! I know, dream woman, not!

Of course, my dream self as a wife, wouldnt have any of these issues, they’d be programmed into me. Yes, Stepford wife time! 😀 In truth, I’d probably love life as a 50’s housewife. I’m submissive, so having ‘my strong man’ telling me what to do, and think, would be heaven to me! I know, I’m funny, before any feminists bite my head off, but yes, I would love it, even if nearly everyone else wouldnt! Fine, I’d prefer the tweak of being the robot version, but if someone knows a way to make me a human Stepford wife, that might make a decent second prize! Still doesnt solve the issue of finding someone who wants me as a wife/partner, but anyway…its a start!

Apple Pie, any one? 😉

Equally, if someone just wants to turn me into a robot wife, I wouldnt mind at all!

The video. Well, I guess that if I was turned into a Stepford Wife, this might be how I feel?

Justice for Hillsborough 96

I apologise for not going with the normal flow of things here tonight, but I couldnt think of anything mind control related that I could discuss (feel free to suggest as a comment), and I’ve pretty well worn out everything else of late. So, given that the result of the inquiry into that awful day in 1989, was announced yesterday, and there was plenty of fallout today, lets roll with that.

Given that the only soccer team I’ve ever followed was Bradford City, who suffered a tragic fire at their stadium in 1985, I know how awful it must be for the families of those who lose people in these tragedies. When I say, follow, it pretty tenuous, as I havent barely looked at any soccer in over a decade, apart from a couple of remarkable events. One of which was Bradford making a cup final, in recent times, but anyway…

What I do remember, was that in 1989, at an FA Cup Semi Final in Sheffield (they play these things at a neutral venue), 96 Liverpool supporters sadly lost their lives, as they got crushed to death, as the police allowed excess numbers of people into the stand. I can say that safely now, because yesterday, finally, after 27 years, an inquiry decided that South Yorkshire Police were to blame for these events, and not anyone else, as they opened the gates, and thousands of people literally flooded into one small area of stands.

To know that its taken this long for justice to be done, is sad. But given that most of the reason for that has been a police cover up, only makes it more shameful. Anyway, today, the current Chief Constable of the force has been suspended from duty, probably forever, as he was due to retire at the end of this year. You may be asking why he’s going like this, when he wasnt here in 1989, I hear you say? Well, because for the last 4 years, he’s been putting up a campaign to discredit the football supporters on that day, and blame them, and not his police force, even though all signs signaled that wasnt the case. The only shame, he continues to get paid for now, an injustice, for sure.

The only blessing for those poor families, is that it is finally over, and sorted. But isnt it awful that because of the Police, trying to avoid admitting the truth about events, its taken this long? But finally…

As to the video, some might say its not an apt choice, given the nature of the lyrics. But the idea of Police, singing about losing people, just seemed loaded with irony.

RIP, those 96 unfortunate people

The winner has to take it all?

I must admit, as someone who was brought up around cricket, and soccer, the idea of a draw, at the end of a sporting match just seems natural to me. However, when it comes to US sports, it seems the concept of a draw, at the end of a match, seems a complete anathema to them. Yes, fine, in knock out competitions in the sports listed above, and seemingly nowadays, at the end of that ghastly 20 over form of cricket, a winner is needed, but at other times, its fine for the game to end as a draw.

Of the ‘Big 4’ American Sports, the only one nowadays that can even theoretically have a draw, is the NFL. And that only after a 15 minute overtime period, so they dont happen all that often. The other 3, there must be a winner. Basketball just plays overtime periods until there is a winner, Ice Hockey goes to a shootout after overtime, until a winner is decided, and Baseball, well, the match just goes on forever, until there is finally a winner!

At least with Ice Hockey, and team losing beyond the standard 60 minutes, gets a consolation point for its efforts. The other 3, well you might as well have been thumped in the standard period, you get nothing! And last night, 3 baseball matches went on, well, forever! The amusing thing, I’ve got to see the recorded version of 2 of them today, albeit cut, to keep them within the 3 to 3.5 hour range for viewers. The ironic thing, the longest one, the game in Washington, playing Minnesota which lasted a marathon 16 innings, is the one I havent seen.

Next in the order of dragging things out, was the game between Pittsburgh, and Arizona. It lasted 13 innings, and basically, both teams ran out of players. Indeed, Arizona ended up with a pitcher playing in left field at the end, had completely ran out of available bodies. Not helped by the fact that one of their players got ejected (sent off), but even so…Not helped by the fact that being a National League game, players get substituted quite often towards the end, anyway. I assume the same happened in Washington, though as I havent seen that one, so?

The last one, which at 12 innings, was the, err, shortest, was the American League game at Houston, against Boston. Still lasted more than 5 hours, mind!

All this, because American sports seemingly must have a winner! Funnily enough, no, I’ve never yet been to a Baseball game that went to overtime, phew! Of course, none of this gets close to the longest baseball game, a mere 33 innings! The longest MLB game, 26 innings! And the latter still didnt produce a winner, it was in the days before floodlights (1920), and darkness ended the game! 25 is the longest, with a result!

Baseball, I love you, but seriously…

OK, the video. What seemingly has to be the case, in so many American sports!

Not all UFO’s fly!

99 times out of 100, when anyone mentions a UFO, everyone thinks of those cute craft that aliens visit our planets in, while doing a fly by. But what do you know, I’ve found a UFO that doesnt fly, it floats! For more details, see the article

http://www.disclose.tv/news/you_can_travel_the_world_via_the_ocean_in_this_floating_ufo_home/130457

Yes, I think its fair to say, this is based on the classic UFO look, and fine, I love it. Yes, as you can guess from a few photos I’ve posted of late, I prefer the flying kind, but yes, as somewhere to live for a short time, this would be fun! No, I’m pretty sure I have as much chance of getting in one of these, as I have of getting into one of the space craft kind!

But, yes, I can think of more than a few places in the world, where living in that would be absolutely amazing. It says you can travel the world in it, though I cant see anywhere saying what the top speed is, but I doubt its very fast. But if you were in it, on the Great Barrier Reef, for example, you’d want to travel pretty slowly, I guess?

Yes, I wouldnt mind wearing an alien suit while in it, or maybe a Creature from the Black Lagoon suit would be more apt, I must admit, but just being me, might be fun.

Right, the video. I have no idea how this song ever became a one hit wonder in the seventies, but it did. It hasnt aged well, so maybe its best to pass it by, but it was about as apt a song as I could think of, for this

Oh, and lastly, for those who wondered if I would do it, yes, I have. Applied speculatively to ESPN re a certain baseball role, that is. If anyone wants to tell the Careers dept at ESPN how good a presenter I would make, feel free to do so!

Not driving in my car

Yes, I’m a non driver. Yes, I tried to learn a few times when young, it wasnt good. Lets say it was akin to Jean Harlow’s singing talents, and leave it at that. Yes, seriously that bad. Though to be fair, that was in the days when all cars over here had a manual gearbox. If I’d been in the US, or had a car over here with an automatic gearbox, well, who knows? But it wasnt the case, and I’m not trying again now!

To be fair, most of the jobs I see advertised that are suitable for me, are pretty much city based. I have had a few, where I have missed out on applying for jobs, where the location isnt suitable for a non driver, but there hasnt been many. Yes, one or two I would have liked to have had a go at, but not many. I’ve even considered those, if the bus service was decent, but generally these remoter points, have a bus service to match, not a great one!

Yes, today I saw one, on one of my job seeking emails, for a Customer Service agent, based in Huddersfield. Perfect, I thought, and then I clicked on the link. You had to be a driver, because you might have to go to their other offices, aargh! Still, never mind, I guess I’ll have to get by, all the same. To tell the truth, this looks more like my type of vehicle, and would have no issue with traffic hold ups, for sure!

flying saucer

Yes, sadly, I very much doubt it ever got beyond concept lol!

Oh, and while I’m talking job opportunities, it seems one occurred today that would be perfect for me. Baseball analyst, and commentator, at ESPN. Yes, Curt Schilling got relieved of his duties for some transphobic comments he made. Now, talk about my dream job…and given you’re either in the studios, or flying to a big city? If anyone knows who I send my details to, let me know. Why not, they’re an inclusive employer, so whats wrong with a woman presenting baseball analysis? 😉

Right, the video. Something I dont do, and now am never likely to do.

Knowing me now, and in the future

Yes, as regular readers will know, every so often I read a story that inspires me to blog about it, or the concept of it at least. And yes, today was one of those days. A link to the story

http://192.155.80.152/VisitorTang/index.html

Oh, by the way, for those concerned, the mind control is only hypnosis, and the concept its used for, is just so sweet. Fine, if you want to read the story, without knowing the plot, go do so now!

OK, you’re back?

No, I’ve never met myself from my future, as far as I know, and given my age, I dont think its going to happen now! Pretty sure I havent got 30 years left, and I certainly hope thats the case at present, the way things are. But yes, it might have been interesting, had it happened when I was younger, and could have moved things along in a different way, if I’d had the choice. And fine, re the story, let me add that I’m no fan of piercings (beyond ears, once), and despite having one small one, not a big fan of tattoos either.

But in terms of looking back/forward at how lesbian relationships were looked upon, and events, even happening now, it makes an interesting historical piece. If anyone from the future had told me, at the beginning/middle of the 80’s, that single sex marriage would be legal, I’d have laughed at them. But here we are now, and…

In terms of myself, my only other voice I’ve heard, was the one from the past, and that technically wasnt me, it was my past life. But as was said at the time, her voice was so different to mine, it was quite amazing. Yes, sweet little Clara Johnson. But of course, I couldnt talk to her at the time, unlike Jessica in the story.

I’ve never yet, considered getting Clara, and her modern day self, CJ, to meet in one of my stories, I just feel that would be a little too weird, for all involved! Mainly because, despite all the crazy things she’s done, CJ has not yet done any time travelling! And fine, given my attachment to both, I’m pretty sure I’d struggle to write a scene with both of them in, anyway!

But yes, I wonder what we would do, if in our early twenties, we could meet ourselves, in our early fifties, and maybe change our lives for the better? Possibly its best that its only fiction!

The video, well, knowing me, knowing me, isnt a song title, so this is as close as I could get!

I hope that something good is going to happen

Yes, fine, I’ll get to that blog title in a moment, but firstly, lets remember the awful events that happened in Boston, 3 years ago today. Yes, the tragic explosions at the end of the Boston Marathon, that saw much loss of lives, and limbs. Not that it was hard to forget it, given its the only day I can remember a baseball game that starts in the morning! A bonus for me, of course, given thats a 4 pm start over here, but anyway…

Ironically, 3 years on, Boston managed to conjure up defeat, from the jaws of victory today, but thankfully everything else went off without incident, and thats the main thing.

Oh, the hopes of something good happening? Yes, I’ve done it again, I was quietly sat, with only one job interview lined up for the week, Friday lunchtime, on the other side of Leeds. Ironically, that would see me working at the Job Center, instead of signing on there, should I get it. So yes, you’ve guessed what happened, an email asking me if I was available for a job interview, as I’d impressed a potential employer. Fine, except they want to do it on Friday too, and its not close to Leeds! In terms of places that my North American friends might find on a map, its just outside Dewsbury.

I offer back, is any other day possible, but seemingly not? So then I try to plan it, so that I can just about use my day rider pass (only good after 9.30, when rush hour is over) that I’d got for the other job, but again, no. So fine, I’m doing it, at 10.00 in the morning, so I’ll probably end up with a gap between the 2 interviews, when I cant do a lot, but…Yes, hopefully something good is going to happen, through all this.

Oh, and if you ignore the difference in time zones, at this time, exactly 1 year ago, I was a thoroughly 40’s girl, at the Film Noir party in Hollywood. Yes, heels, dress, the works! Heels were fine until I ended up walking nearly a mile back to the hotel, anyway! That was certainly something good that happened!

Right, the video. Yes, a few clues thrown in, here. I did actually find a live version of this, but its a very abbreviated version, and lets face it, this is one of those songs that could never sound as good live. So, instead, last years remastered version. Now, I find it hard to tell the difference in these things, but I’m sure there is some?
