Reflections from another world

Yes, this is the night when supposedly this world, and the spirit world come closer for one night. For those of us of Irish ancestry, we call it Samhain. To Americans, its better known as Halloween.

I’ll be honest, I have no idea what Halloween in the US is like, I’ve never been there at that time of year. Though to be honest, in recent times, the event seems to have taken off in a similar way over here, so I guess I now have an inkling of what it must be like. Of course, that means I never got to dress up as a witch, or the like when I was young, we never celebrated it. Fireworks night, 6 days later, is a whole different matter! Of course, apart from putting on a warm coat, you never got to dress up for that!

Mind, the need to dress up today over here, was a moot point. I went out this afternoon in nothing more than a sleeved top (not sure I even needed the sleeves) and trousers, the temperature was nearly 70, at the end of October! Seriously, normally, somewhere in the 50’s would be quite good for now! Mind, we will probably pay for it very soon.

Anyway, just a quick word before I close, to a certain ghostly spirit, who is still meant to be around, haunting in Los Angeles. Jean, if you want to visit me tonight, through the ethereal barrier, dont make it too late, I’m on an 8.00 start in the morning. If however, you and me, as some suggest, are one and the same, just stick to the normal routine. 😉

The video, is an absolute 70’s gem, that I have no idea why it wasnt a bigger hit than it was. Not even sure that it was a hit in the US? I love it, just glad of the chance to slip it in here

Half an hour (or so) with my man

No, dont get too excited, folks, its only a hopeless crush, nothing more.

Normally, I get to see ‘my man’ once a year, on a Monday night, sometime in September. The rest of the year, well, I have pictures of him, for my memories. But now, this year, in all, we will get together 3 times, once last month, again last night, and then again, in 4 weeks time.

His good looks, his wonderful voice…

Oh fine, as I said, dont get excited, I’ve never even met the man, nor am I in all honesty likely to, its Jon Gruden, presenter on Monday Night Football, in the US.

The once a year thing? Well, yes, normally every September I spend a week in the US, and when Monday Night Football comes on, I can sit on the sofa (or whatever I have at the hotel), and swoon at his looks, and his voice. I missed one year, as my room in Boston was at a retreat centre, so no TV. But otherwise…

This year, I knew I had a bonus, the extra trip (as things played out) to the US in November, meant I would see him again, but…for one week only…

The combination of a 10 pm finish (getting home about 50 minutes later), and the fact that due to the US dropping the clocks back an hour, a week after us, everything fell into place. So at 12.15 this morning, the TV was set to British Eurosport (the channel that covers MNF over here), when they went over to the ESPN feed for the game. And there he was, my man, Jon. Fine, I was nearly straight on the computer, but for the next half hour or so, while I finished things off…

I’ve actually known Jon about 15 years or so, firstly as a coach in the NFL, then as the presenter of MNF on TV, when he finally got fired by Tampa Bay. And yes, even back then, it wasnt hard to have a crush on the guy. Those looks, that voice, all do something for me, I must admit.

As you know, I’m not one for love, romance, and all that stuff, but if one man was going to sweep me off my feet, yes, he would be my perfect choice.

So fine, now you know!

The video, what I am again now, until 4 weeks time, at least as far as seeing ‘my man’ is concerned

I had no idea he was still performing in all honesty, until I found this, this song was a hit 42 years ago, so…

The most beautiful girl in the world?

No, not me. Seriously, I wish lol.

But as these 3 pictures from my recent photo shoot show, when someone does my hair, and my make up for me, and I put myself in the hands of a master photographer, I can look pretty good all the same!

See what I mean? 😉

There are many more, about a dozen in fact, so if you want to see more, send me an email address, and I’ll send them off to you. But as far as on here goes, thats all you get!

Wonderful, arent they? I’ll wait for the romance proposals to pour in lol!

The video, an oldie, from my teens, the clue is in the blog title

Oh, and as those of you on the Garden, or the MC Forum might have noticed, I’ve changed my photo on there, and indeed, my ‘name’ on the Garden too. Yes, I look far more like Jean, so I might as well play that way too. There is no way I could look like Louise Brooks, if I tried! Changing my name on the Forum is harder, so I will stay as Merry Brooks in name, if not in picture on there.

So, my new look

Blue eyed babe

Just look into my big blue eyes, and… 😉

Jean Harlow really was a Royals fan!

With many thanks to my friend, Kris, for these two marvellous, err, photographs of Jean, clearly a big Royals fan

The video, well, what can I say. Both teams seem to adore this song, so wonderfully apt, for what should be a great series.

Yes, I want the Royals to win, but the Giants are probably my favourite NL side, so…I’d live lol!

World Series 2014: Kansas City and San Francisco, a personal look

Yes, tomorrow night, in Kansas City, the culmination of the baseball season begins. Given that the game will actually start at 1.00 am in the UK, on Wednesday morning, I wont be watching. But in spirit, albeit a sleeping spirit, I will be there.

Its a rare treat, in that I have actually been to both stadiums where the games will take place, and actually enjoyed visiting both of them. The last time there was a World Series when that happened, 1993 when Toronto took on Philadelphia. The Toronto stadium at that time, was the once I visited, but the Philadelphia one wasnt, having being demolished in 2004, and replaced by a very modern stadium that well, I didnt fall in love with!
The last Series between 2 teams I have seen play is far more recent, just 2 years ago, when San Francisco played Detroit. I saw Detroit play, in the now demolished Metrodome in Minneapolis.

But these two…

So lets start with where people leave their heart, San Francisco. AT&T Park is probably one of my all time favourites, probably helped by the fact that the first time I went there (have been twice), I went to an evening game, and not only did I get to watch the baseball, in a wonderful setting, I got to see the sunset over San Francisco Bay, and that was worth the money in itself.
But all in all, its a wonderful setting to see baseball played, though sadly, no one hit a home run into the water while I was there. Have seen it on TV a couple of times, but…

So yes, ironically, under any other circumstances, I would happily support them against most teams, but not this time around.

Because they are playing Kansas City!

So far, I’ve only had the one visit to Kaufman Stadium, about a month ago, when they lost to Boston. As was mentioned in the blog at the time, the service that Kate and I got from the staff, was truly amazing. And seeing those famous fountains, at the other end of the stadium…really good!

I must admit, there are 2 ladies who are the reason I follow Kansas City, Brooks and Harlow. One came from the city, one came from the state of Kansas, so all in all…a big soft spot for me. Neither of course saw the Royals play, they only started playing in 1969. Lets face it, pre war, travel made it impossible for teams to play that far west. And when teams started moving west, California became the big target, so…

And before you ask, I have absolutely no evidence that either lady ever saw a baseball match anywhere!

Given that San Francisco have won it all twice in the last 4 years, Kansas hadnt even made the play offs since 1985, when they actually won the World Series themselves, I might have supported KC anyway. But now, probably the first time I’ve really rooted against SF in all honesty.

Hopefully KC will win, as that would be perfect for me. But at the same time, if a National League team has to win it, well, San Francisco might be my call. But even so, I have to say it, go Royals!

The video, well its about KC, and produced in Cherryvale, surely the perfect combination? I have to thank my friend, Tina for posting it on Facebook in the first place.

Oh, and if any manip/photoshop experts out there want to send me a picture of Jean Harlow, in either a Royals top, or cap, I would so love it, and would post it up. I know, wherever she is watching it from, she’ll be rooting for her home town team

Forever (or at least temporarily) young

I was reading a story earlier today, written by a gentleman who may well be hypnotising me in just about 5 weeks time, doing a past life regression, to discover (or more likely not discover) that I was Jean Harlow in a past life. Realistically, the chances of that happening, must be slim, despite the resemblance and everything else, that would just be too amazing for words. But, I might be, I guess?

Anyway, that isnt what this blog is about, as the title might have given away.

In this story, a lady named Jeanette (and yes, I suspect I know where that name comes from) gets regressed from her real age of 36, to be 16 again, and acts accordingly. Its wonderfully done, and beautifully written. Thing is, I have some knowledge as to what that feeling is like, and it really is quite something!

When I did my session with Lex a while back, my flapper ‘self’ was a 22 year old girl. No, short of watching the whole video to find out, I cant remember her name! But it was an interesting experience in both senses, both seeing the modern world through the eyes of a 20’s girl, but I genuinely felt so much younger at the time. No, I doubt any of the arthritis, or general aches and pains of life went away, but the younger me didnt notice them.

Oh, and even greater fun, ‘she’ was allowed to do the journey home by train, and to my surprise, as someone who is a regular commuter, was how different the whole journey felt, through her eyes.

Oh, yes, in the story, she goes back to her real age before the end! But how strange would it feel to be left so young again?

The other thing I always wonder about, is what it would be like to be 5 ft 2, as Jean was, instead of 5ft 11? Talk about a whole different perspective on life! I must admit, I wouldnt mind being a few inches shorter, though I suspect that losing 9 inches might be a bit too strange now! But I guess I could be hypnotised to enjoy it lol?

I have no idea if he has plans to make me think I am Jean Harlow, while under hypnosis, or longer, but that would certainly be interesting. Of course, that may just be letting Jean loose, if I was her in a past life! Anyway, in about 6 weeks time, I, or Jean will tell you all about that!

The video, something a little different

The last couple of days, plus baseball!

So fine, lets fill you in on the last couple of days, they’ve been something, to say the least.

Started off with the interview yesterday, which had a pair of firsts, the first time I’ve worn a dress to work (top and slacks/top and skirt, like always!) due to the interview. Definitely the first time I’ve worn high heels at work, but they only lasted about an hour (around, and during the interview), as I changed back into my more comfortable shoes straight after, and due to events (early call to interview), I only put them on just before it started.

Yes, it went well, or seemed so to me. The result, I wont know until the later stages of next week, but we will see…fingers crossed.

Then. after work, just after 3.00 (short shift), I headed off to see the results of the photo shoot. I was told the pictures were good, and they were right, they were good, or even better! I only wish I could show you some, but until the email versions of a few arrive, you’ll just have to believe me. But as soon as I get them…you’ll see them. Hey, I want you to see them, they’re that good!

Today, I had my MOT, and I passed. No, not a real MOT, a medical check over, and beyond the known arthritic joints (right shoulder, back, knees), all was fine. So yes, I’ll carry on travelling for a while yet! 🙂

The video, well, you might be saying this of me, after the photo shoot

Oh, and lastly, as promised, the baseball.

Lets just say that Jean Harlow was asked how she felt about the Kansas City Royals performance so far in the play offs, and this was her reaction

Happy to see you

Go Royals!
